These Drugstore Toners Made A Real Difference To Our Skin
Now is the best time to let your skincare take center stage, and for us, it’s our form of self-love and escape. We’re focusing on keeping our skin clean, hydrated, and targeting our skin concerns with efficacious products that make a difference.
Our latest skincare obsession is two toners from Versed Skincare that are both giving us major results without breaking the bank, which right now, is more necessary than ever. If you haven’t yet heard, Versed is an affordable clean skincare brand – prices range from an $8 cleansing balm to a $20 serum – and by clean we mean that they meet the highly esteemed European Union standard, and everything is formulated to be vegan and cruelty-free. Think of this brand as the more colorful, less complex version of The Ordinary – Versed has minimal packaging, it’s easier to understand for skincare newbies, and the formulas are great.
Meet the toners that have been working wonders for our skin.
1. Versed Skincare Weekend Glow Daily Brightening Solution, $18
A solution for: Dullness, fine lines, acne-prone skin, dark spots, pores.
What’s in it: Witch Hazel, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid, Kojic Acid, Green Tea Extract.
What it does: A brightening toner that helps even skin tone and eliminates dark spots and post-inflammatory pigmentation left behind by pimples. The gently exfoliating toner is powered by four AHAs and contains potent skin brighteners like kojic, azelaic acid, vitamin C, and bearberry extract.
What we thought: With so many AHAs in the formula we really expected this toner to tingle, but it’s actually very gently while still being very effective. We use it every evening (in combination with our usual routine), and it has definitely been improving our skin texture and making those annoying red marks left behind by pimples disappear a whole lot faster. The addition of antioxidants like niacinamide and vitamin C helps protect your skin from free radical damage while simultaneously boosting hydration and brightness. Overall, our skin looks clearer and more even.
Who we recommend it for: This is great for anyone who has always wanted to use acids in their routine but found other industry faves a bit too tingly and harsh. We saw great results when using this once a day, and we experienced no irritation! If you have sensitive skin, it is definitely worth patch-testing before.
Tips: Use this just once a day, and if using retinol or other potent actives already in your routine, use this in a different routine – i.e. if you use retinol at night, use this toner as part of your morning routine.
Baby Cheeks All-In-One Hydrating Milk, $18
A solution for: Dryness, dehydration.
What’s in it: Coconut Water, Algae Extract, Bamboo Extract, Glycerin, Radish Root Extract, Vitamin E.
What it does: A multitasking milk formula that hydrates the skin, balances skin pH levels, and removes any makeup traces still left behind after cleansing.
What we thought: This is a seriously hydrating formula that feels as good on the skin as it does to use – although it’s fragrance-free, it has a very subtle, calming scent. It makes the perfect first step in your skincare routine to ensure your skin is clean, balanced, and hydrated, and it helps your following steps absorb better. The toner leaves our skin feeling super soft and smooth, but not sticky.
Who we recommend it for: This formula is designed for dry skin, but we also think it’s great for all skin types. It’s a great toner to keep skin calm and hydrated, which we know is key for any skin type, and it’s perfect for alternating with any harsh toners you have, to ensure you don’t over-exfoliate your skin. Or, if you already use AHA serums or treatments in your skincare routine, this toner makes a great, non-irritating primer for them.
