My Ultimate Beauty Products Of 2017
Hey my loves!! OMG, so much has happened over the last 12 months, so many incredible new products have been released (Pat McGrath I’m looking at you), and we’ve had some awesome new brands enter the beauty world too. Not only have newbies KKW Beauty and Fenty Beauty been killing it with their collections, but we’ve had some really cool collaborations from some of my fav bloggers: @makeupshayla X Maybelline, Desi X Katy for Dose of Colors, and the I Want Kandee Collection by legendary beauty vlogger Kandee Johnson with Too Faced. As 2017 is almost over, I wanted to round-up my fav makeup, skincare, and haircare goodies that have been my go-to this year. I’m always playing around with my routine and discovering new products, but I wanted to share the ones I’ve been using all year; some have just launched, and others have been my go-to for a while. So, here are my ultimate beauty pieces that I couldn’t have done 2017 without:
Best Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer
It’s a well-known fact that a good concealer is an essential in any contour queen’s makeup kit, and Tarte’s Shape Tape concealer has come through for me all year round. The formula is pigmented and easy to blend, the packaging is pretty, and it’s long-lasting – what more could you want? Shop it here.
Best Eyeliner: Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
I’ve tried hundreds of eyeliners, and this is, without a doubt, the most foolproof of them all. If you struggle with perfecting a wing, the felt tip-like nib will make it as easy as possible to get the perfect liner – I promise! The waterproof formula also means that once it’s on, it’ll stay looking flawless all day long, it’s everything you could want from an eyeliner. Shop it here.
Best Drugstore Mascara: Maybelline Colossal Big Shot
When Shayla released her collaboration with Maybelline this summer, they revived their big-shot mascara, and it has become my absolute go-to ever since. If I weren’t so obsessed with lashes, this would do a good job of replacing them. This formula doesn’t budge or leave you with panda eyes, adds crazy length and plenty of volume (check out my full review and pics here). Shop it here.
Best Luxury Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex
This mascara has literally become iconic in the beauty world, and it really is better than a lot of things! The formula is super long-wearing and allows you to build up the most amazingly long, separated, voluminous, and just gorgeous lashes. It’s worth every dollar. Shop it here.
Best Brows: Benefit Cosmetics ka-BROW
My eyebrows are super important to me, and I can completely rely on this to keep my brows in place and looking great all day long. The thick, paste-like creamy formula is so easy to apply and blend, and it’s smudge-proof – huge bonus because the half-an-eyebrow-look is never good. One of my fav makeup products ever! Shop it here.
Best Drugstore Eyeshadow Palettes: Morphe 35R
I’m obsessed with Morphe palettes, I have all of them, and I just think they have such a brilliant formula at a great price point – it’s luxury pigmentation with intense payoff! This one has a stunning collection of warm browns and golds, and if you’re serious about makeup, I really recommend this. If you prefer a smaller palette, their Day Slayer Palette, released this year, is a stunning, slightly brighter but more compact version of this. Shop it here.
Best Luxury Eyeshadow Palette: Huda Beauty Desert Dusk
This palette encompasses everything I want from an eyeshadow palette. It has four formulas so creating diverse playful looks is easy, and every time I open it, I’m inspired to create something completely new. (Check out my Desert Dusk lookbook here). Shop it here.
Best Full-Coverage Foundation: Huda Beauty #Fauxfilter
We spent years on creating a formula that would give maximum coverage, an insanely gorgeous, weightless finish, and long-wearing matte effect. Since this formula was created, it’s the only foundation I use. We’re also incredibly proud to have launched the collection with 30 shades, so there is a fit for most skin tones – stay tuned for 2018, as we’re releasing even more! Shop it here
Best Natural Drugstore Foundation: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation
This has been around for years because it’s a classic formula. It gives sheer-to-medium coverage that leaves you with a stunningly glowy, dewy finish. The fact that this only costs $7.99 makes this even more of a must-have! Shop it here.
Best Natural Luxury Foundation: Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
This foundation isn’t cheap, but it is insanely good! With 24 shades, this lightweight formula will adapt to almost any skin tone, and the formula gives a brightening finish that can easily be built for more coverage. It’s definitely a winning formula! Shop it here.
Best Luxury Setting Powder: Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder
This setting powder ticks all the boxes: it’s natural-looking, works for everyone (there’s a translucent shade and a deeper translucent shade for richer skin tones), and it will never look cakey. Shop it here.
Best Drugstore Setting Powder: RCMA Translucent Setting Powder
This is like the OG setting powder that’s been used by celeb make-up artists for years. It’s extremely mattifying, VERY long-wearing and it comes in six different shades so that it works for every skin tone. If you want to keep your look locked in all day, this is your powder. Plus at $12 for 3oz, it is incredibly good value. Shop it here.
Best Oil: Caudalie Divine Oil
Honestly, one of the best body oils ever created, and I probably talk about it every year! The blend of grape seed, hibiscus, sesame, and argan oils combined with their patented blends just gives the softest, most hydrated skin insanely quickly! I love that the formula doesn’t feel greasy and that it absorbs almost immediately, so all you’re left with is super soft skin and a subtle glow. It is quite pricey, but they have mini bottles that you can try. Shop it here.
Best Skincare (Face): SkinCeuticals Retexturing Activator
If you’re prone to acne or have marks or fine lines that you want to smooth out, this formula will be your BFF. I use this oil-free serum every night before I moisturize and I’ve seen a crazy improvement in the texture of my skin. The formula exfoliates away dead skin cells to boost radiance while hydrating and plumping your skin – yaaas! Shop it here.
Best Skincare (Body): Bioderma Atoderm Shower Gel
This is one of those products that once you try it, you won’t ever want to use anything else – even if it is just a body wash. This hypoallergenic body wash is soap and paraben-free and is amazing for giving your skin TLC every day. It even cures bacne! Check out my full review. Shop it here.
Best Hair Product: Oribe Texturizing Spray
This is basically volume in a bottle, plus it’s a 2-in-1 formula. Not only does it absorb any excess oil like a dry shampoo would, but it also creates loads of body and ‘grip’ for hair styling. It also has gorgeous ingredients like aloe leaf juice and mango extracts to feed your hair with nutrients while it does its thing. Shop it here.
Best Drugstore Makeup Brushes: Morphe
When it comes to the best drugstore brushes, no one beats Morphe. The bristles perform well to distribute both powder and liquid formulas, and they’re really great quality too; if looked after properly, these brushes will stand up against even some luxury brushes. Shop them here.
Best Luxury Makeup Brushes: Chikuhodo
This Japanese brand started out creating paint brushes and have gradually built up a rep as one of the best makeup brush makers in the world. Their handmade luxury brushes don’t come without a price tag, but they are worth every dollar if you love makeup as much as much as I do. Shop them here.
Best Beauty Tool: Tweezerman Slanted Tweezers
I’ve been obsessed with Tweezerman ever since I noticed I had a lot more hair than most of my friends. Tweezerman is without a doubt the best tweezers I’ve ever used, and this year I had the honor of collaborating with them to create a personalized, Huda Beauty Collection. If you want precision grooming in style, check out my collection with Tweezerman here.
Best Contour Kit: Nyx Highlight & Contour Pro Palette
This palette gives you every shade you could possibly need to contour like a pro. It has four bronze-toned shades for contouring, each with a slightly different undertone to provide you with an effective contour, and four highlighting shades that will brighten, color correct, and add the right amount of light to the different high points of your face. The palette is quite big, so it’s not ideal for on-the-go, but for at-home, it delivers quality performance at a great price. Shop it here.
Best Makeup Spray: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water
I love this multi-tasking formula. You can use it before your foundation to prime your skin and afterward to set and refresh your makeup throughout the day. It also works well for my dry, sensitive skin as it adds hydration and luminosity. Shop it here.
Best Setting Spray: Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
Urban Decay wasn’t kidding when they named this the All Nighter setting spray because it really does make your makeup last forever! It’s pretty genius; the formula works to lower the temperature of your makeup so that everything stays in place like you’ve just applied it. If you have oily skin or issues with makeup setting into fine lines, this also works well to keep everything locked down in its right place. Shop it here.
