5 Celebs Who Opened Up About Endometriosis
In support of Endometriosis Awareness Month, we wanted to shout out five famous endo-warriors who have spoken up about a health condition that’s often left undiagnosed. By speaking out, these women help raise awareness on what it’s really like to live with endometriosis so that fewer women have to struggle alone.
Endometriosis is a common condition in which the lining of your uterus is displaced and travels to the surface of the ovaries or into the sidewalls of the pelvic space. It can then cause very heavy periods, painful PMS symptoms, pain during intercourse, gut issues, and even problems with fertility. However, as the symptoms can be similar to PMS, it can be left misdiagnosed for years, which is why it’s so important to be aware of the concern. It’s also more common than you may think, approx. 11% of American women between 11 and 44 have it, so if you experience any of these symptoms, check in with a health provider.
Here are five brave women who have spoken out about endometriosis…
1. Halsey

Halsey has always been incredibly raw and honest when opening up about her struggles with endometriosis, which only makes us love her more.
In a post back in 2017, she shared on Instagram, “For those of you who have followed this battle of mine or who may suffer with [endometriosis] yourself, you know the extremes to which it can be mentally exhausting and physically painful. I’m in total agony right now… (and I’m going to be in excruciating pain for a while cause I had quite the cocktail of procedures today). In my recovery, I’m thinking of all of you and how you give me the strength and stamina to power through and prosper.”
She followed with words of comfort and compassion, “If you suffer from chronic pain or a debilitating disease please know that I have found time to live a crazy, wild, rewarding life AND balance my treatment and I hope so much in my heart that you can too.”
More recently, she shocked the world with a beautiful pregnancy announcement, however, once again, she kept it real and gave credit to her previous surgery that got her to that point. She shared an image of her pregnant belly with two scars, “The scars that got me this angel,” she wrote, adding the hashtag #endowarrior. She definitely is a warrior.
2. Huda Kattan

Over a year ago, Huda revealed that she was recently diagnosed with endometriosis in her early 30s. She wrote, “I’ll be real with you guys, I’ve always had regular periods and no real issues with my female health, which means going to the gyno regularly isn’t something I do, as I didn’t really see any need to. I’ve always had painful periods, but I just thought this was part of life. I also knew that I had cysts from a previous ultrasound (they’re also genetic), but when I visited the gyno for a checkup, I discovered I had way more cysts than I thought. Due to the number of cysts, my gyno ran more tests and I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis. I don’t know why it took me so long to go to a gyno and I wish I had gone sooner.”
Huda added that once she realized she had endometriosis, it explained SO much. She quickly learned that she was experiencing many of the common side effects of endometriosis, simply without realizing it. From thick body hair in some areas and hair loss at the front of her hair, not to mention very painful periods and unexplained weight gain.
Once again, this is why awareness is SO important as it’ll help you understand your body and feel empowered instead of constantly being unprepared. Read more about Huda’s endometriosis journey here.

Whoopi was also only diagnosed with endometriosis at the age of 40, and since she has often spoken out, stating she’s shocked that so few people know about the disease, including her daughter. At the Endometriosis Foundation’s Blossom Ball in 2009, Whoopi said, “There’s nothing dirty about it. No religious group is going to be pissed if you discuss this. Because if you don’t discuss it, many more women are going to find themselves unable to have children, or find themselves close to dying because [the disease has] led to something else.”
4. Olivia Culpo

After the tragic loss of her son, Jack, Chrissy spoke openly about the situation, offering solace to other mothers and endo-warriors everywhere. She recently wrote on Twitter, “I truly feel kicks in my belly, but it’s not phantom. I have surgery for endometriosis tomorrow… but the period feeling this month is exactly like baby kicks. Sigh.”
Before the laparoscopic excision surgery, she shared a snap on her Instagram stories with her usual humor, “Endometriosis surgery please endo this pain lol lol lol.” She also shared the healing process post-surgery, adding: “My whole belly’s got numbed… It makes it hard, every little cough and stuff… But it is truly still better than the contractions and the pain of endo.”
