Drawing a blank at hot girl summer? Check out this music video by ICONS Meg Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj. To put it simply, hot girl summer is about an attitude, a fierce energy, knowing you’re straight-up fire, and having a ton of fun as your true, authentic self. So… go live your best hot girl summer life in these fire summer trends that give us all the energy:

1. Blinged Out Eyes

Ever since Euphoria hit our screens, the world has become more and more obsessed with glitter, diamonte, and neon hues. If we’re honest, we’ve never desired a sense of euphoria (and freedom) quite like we do no RN, so have some fun and go wild with your makeup looks.

Embrace diamontes, layers of glitter, you could even opt for stick-on additions, which will be huge this summer. From metallic eyeliner stickers to floral stamps to brighten up your day (or hide your blemishes), it’s easy to understand why beauty stickers are making a comeback on social media.

Whether you use them to elevate an already flawless makeup look (case in point: Kylie by Ariel) or go ALL in like MUA Doniella Davy has (below). Remember: there’s no such thing as too much for a hot girl summer!

With that said, we like to focus our attention on the eyes and keep the rest of the look relatively stripped back with dewy skin and a soft lip. Let the diamontes do the talking!

2. Glossy Lids

There’s literally nothing sexier than a glossy lid. It’s slick, hot, and super versatile. Whether you opt for a neutral tone to keep the look understated or grab a pop of color for an eye-catching look

The only problem with a glossy lid is it can turn from a vibe to a hot mess in a matter of minutes. Our top tips? First up, always prime your lids with a loose setting powder to get rid of any oiliness, then create a base using a shimmery eyeshadow.

Next up, it’s time to add your layer of gloss. Using your finger, dab a small amount of gloss over your lid being careful to dab and not smear your hard work. Start off lightly, the less product you use, the less likely it is to move or build up in the crease. Most importantly, avoid the crease – where it tends to feel the stickiest – and no one will even see that it’s not all over. The most important thing to remember is to have fun and don’t forget to snap a shameless selfie.

3. Citrus Hues

According to Pantone, Illuminating Yellow is one of THE two colors for 2021, so it’s only right we experiment with the hue in every way possible, and this summer that includes makeup. From a soft wash of color to a burst of yellow eyeliner, nothing says summer like sunshine yellow.

We’re also crushing on another tangy hue this summer – orange. While you may not naturally gravitate towards citrus shades, they’re actually more wearable – you just need to find the right shade. If you have warm undertones (learn how to find out your undertone here) opt for rich yellow hues and brassy orange tones. Alternatively, if you have cool undertones, opt for icy pastel shades or ashy tones.

If you need some more inspiration, take note of @dariakoko‘s eyeliner creatio, which is accented with a burst of color in the inner tear duct. The additional pop of color opens up the eye and gives it an edgy finish. Looking for a new citrus eyeshadow? The Danessa Myricks Colorfix 24-Hour Cream Color, $18, is a great option as they have tons of vibrant, tangy shades. Plus, it blends out seamlessly and wears well throughout the day without creasing. It can also double up as an eyeliner, simply grab a flat brush and get to work.

4. Smoked Out Eyeliner

When it comes to makeup, there are few looks sexier than a smokey eye. It’s no secret that we’ve been crushing on the look for the past year, but we’ve seen it all over the SS21 and AW21 runway, so it’s a safe bet that it will continue to reign for the rest of 2021.

The best thing about a smokey eye is its versatility. Regardless of your makeup preference, you can make it work for you. Keep it classic with cool grey tones and a smudged-out liner. Or, opt for something warmer and embrace some color.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different color families, like rich plums, khakis, and soft brown hues. We’re obsessed with this coral smokey look created by celeb MUA Hung Vanngo on bombshell Jodie Turner-Smith. It’s so summery and yet has that smokey vibe.

5. Hot Girl Cheeks

Blusher has blown up over the past two years and it’s not going anywhere this summer. Instead, it’s being used in full force and making its way further up the cheek than ever before.

Take your blush all the way to your temples! Thanks to TikTok, people are applying it all the way up the cheekbones towards the tail end of the brow. The result? It lifts and sculpts your face in seconds, even without contour. #Genius.

Another trend we’re seeing (and loving) is blusher, which is extended up to the cheekbone and brought onto the lid. It creates a dramatic monochromatic look that’s so summery and vibrant. If you’re feeling bold, opt for a hot pink shade or if you want to be a little less daring, opt for a peach or coral shade.
