Broke Girl's Guide: How To Save Money On Your Beauty Routine
We’re always looking for creative ways to save money but RN it feels more important than ever. And when it comes to beauty, there are so many different ways to curb spending – like doing your own DIY facial or trying these 5 free daily beauty habits. Remember, just because you’re investing time and effort into your skincare routine, doesn’t mean you need to splurge! Here are five easy ways to save money on your beauty routine…
1. Don’t Waste Products
The first one is simple: Don’t waste the products you currently have. It’s easier to think the more you apply the better results you’ll get, but sometimes too much of a good thing can a be a bad thing, especially for your skin. If you use too much product, it can prevent it from being properly absorbed so that it just sits on the surface of your skin and blocks your pores, which could contribute to a breakout. Plus, you’re wasting your hard-earned cash, so make sure you follow our formula-sizing guide below. Finally, remember to finish your products before you order a heap of new ones – we know it’s hard, but it’s better for the environment and your pocket!
2. Find Multi-Use Products
Why use a product that has one makeup power when you can use one that has two? We’re obsessed with multi-use products; they save space in your makeup bag, they save time, and of course, they save your $$$. Right now, we’re loving the Bite Beauty Mulitstick, $24, the creamy formula can be used as a lip color, an eyeshadow or used as a blush for a sexy flush of color. The Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, $44, is another dope multi-use product; it’s a primer, glow-enhancer, and a highlighter all-in-one (read our full review here). Even if it’s not marketed as multi-use, we like to get creative: for example, a highlighter palette can double up as a great eyeshadow palette or your fave rosy lipstick can be used as a cream blush.

3. Invest in Skip-Care
Skip-care is a hot topic in the skincare community atm, and the premise of the trend is simple; less is more. Instead of piling on multiple skincare products, it strips back your routine so that you’re only using formulas and ingredients that address a range of skincare concerns. For example, find a toner that doubles as an exfoliator, like the Pixi Glow Tonic, $30. Or find a nighttime cream that contains active ingredients like vitamin C or retinol so you can use one product instead of three. Not only does it save you time, effort and money, but it’s actually proven to be helpful for your skin. By using fewer products, you minimize the risk of overwhelming your skin with too many ingredients that don’t complement each other. It only takes one formula or ingredient to throw your skin off balance. Check out this post for more deets on skip-care.
4. Rely on DIYs
If you’re a regular on Huda Beauty, you’ll know how dedicated we are to DIYs. Not only are you applying the ingredients in their most raw and natural form, but you also know that they’re free of any nasties like parabens or sulfates. Whatever your beauty concern, whether it’s greasy locks, acne-prone skin or sparse eyebrows, there’s a DIY solution that usually costs half the price.
5. Visit the Drugstore
A lot of people assume that the higher the price tag, the better the product. And while sometimes this rings true – you may be paying for more potent ingredients or more efficient formulas – there are also so many amazing drugstore formulas that will make such a difference to your skincare or makeup routine that won’t break the bank. And it’s not just us, all our trusted derms use and recommend drugstore products on the regs (find out which drugstore products derms rely on here). There’s also a ton of brands offering high-grade formulas without the price tag, like The Ordinary, Versed, or The Inkey List, which offer amazing solutions for less than $20, including our fave $13 retinol.
