ALERT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL – you no longer need to save your hair masks for #SelfCareSundays. Thanks to TikTok, you can now multitask (and mask) your way to phenomenal hair days WHILE hitting the gym, grocery shopping, lunch dates – you name it. Introducing: #HairMaskBun, AKA the ‘it girl’ hairstyle that heals your strands while you get sh*t done. Talk about self-care…

@ravenalexandriaa Go to style these days is a @olaplex bun 💖 #olaplexbun #hairtok #blackgirltiktok #atlcontentcreator #atl #fyp #olaplexno6 #olaplexno7 #curlyhair ♬ Lo-fi hip hop – NAO-K

The hack: Remember the Y2K snatched bun? Yup, the one trademarked as THE off-duty model look and loved by the likes of Bella and Zendaya. Turns out, the hairstyle levels up when you use a reparative leave-in mask to create that “slicked” effect instead of a hair wax stick or gel. See where we’re going with this?

The hype: 1.2 billion people have seen the TikTok memo… for now… (and you’re now one of them!)

How to Get The #HairMaskBun Lewk

Step 1: Dampen your hair with a mist, then comb through any knots before sectioning it into a center parting. Apply a generous amount of your fave leave-in hair mask from root to tip.

Step 2: Once the product is applied, comb your hair back into a ponytail using a dense brush and secure it with a hair tie. This will ensure all the hair is going in the same direction.

Step 3: Wrap your hair into a bun formation and secure it with an elastic or tight bungee tie. Depending on your hair length, texture, or look you’re going for, you can also braid your hair before twisting it into a bun.

Step 4: To finish, apply a small amount of your mask to a toothbrush and comb down any baby hairs or frizz for a sleek finish. Alternatively, feel free to use a gel to lay your edges for an extra strong hold (find our faves here).
