Kourtney Kardashian, Margot Robbie, Anne Hathaway, Kate Bosworth, FKA Twigs, and Gal Galdot all have one thing in common – their foundation. When we heard the list of Hollywood A-Listers who use the Oxygenetix foundation we were shook (yes, we hadn’t heard about it either)! Then, when we found out how many derms and celeb MUAs also swear by this foundation thanks to its skin-soothing powers, we couldn’t wait to try it for ourselves. So we got our makeup sponge ready and put it to the test: Here’s the 411 on Hollywood’s best-kept secret!

What makes the Oxygenetix Foundation so unique…

There are, in fact, two Oxygenetix foundations, both of which are celeb-approved: the Oxygenating Foundation and the Acne Control Foundation. What sets them apart from all the other foundations on the shelves of Sephora is the ingredient list. The Oxygenating Foundation was actually created for plastic surgeons to give to patients who had just received an in-clinic treatment like chemical peels or laser. The oxygen-rich formula is designed to safely conceal any redness or inflammation while repairing and protecting the skin, all without clogging pores.

As a result, they both include the patented ingredient Ceravitae, which not only soothes the skin but also stimulates skin cell production and encourages collagen and elastin production. A foundation that improves the quality of our skin and makes us look younger? Umm yes, please. Due to its calming properties, it’s also ideal for people with rosacea or seriously sensitive skin.

It wasn’t long before MUAs caught on to this foundation phenomenon, and it quickly became as popular among the A-list as it was with derms.

The Oxygenating Foundation, $66

Oxygenating foundation

What it is: A breathable, weightless foundation with customizable coverage for a skin-like finish. It’s aloe-vera based to soothe and hydrate the skin. Plus, it contains SPF 30 to protect the skin from the damaging UVA and UVB rays of the sun. It’s non-transferable and water-resistant; providing coverage that lasts.

What we liked: We love how easily blendable the formula is and how comfortable it is to wear. It’s also super lightweight and gives a really natural finish that’s dewy and fresh, so if you’re a no-makeup makeup kinda babe, this foundation is perfect for you. It didn’t crease or move into any fine lines either, and it conceals areas of uneven tone – although it’s definitely a medium-coverage foundation.

After using the foundation consistently for a month, we even noticed that our skin improved – our pores were less oily and our blackheads were improving. The fact that it has SPF 30 is another major bonus – and explains why so many derms love it! Plus, while we’re normally hesitant to use SPF foundations as they can cause flashback, the Oxygenetix foundations use titanium oxide instead of zinc to prevent that chalky effect in snaps.

What we didn’t like: Admittedly, we were not a huge fan of the packaging; considering the hefty price tag ($66), we’d probably expect something a little more luxe. But then again, it is what you’d expect from a dermatological brand. The shade range was also disappointing, as they only have 14 shades, with few options for fair or very rich skin tones.

The Oxygenating Acne Control Foundation, $76

What it is: A lightweight foundation with buildable coverage. The formula is packed with salicylic acid to help combat acne and help with pore congestion. It’s also aloe vera-based and contains SPF 30 to protect your skin from sun damage.

What we liked: The fact that this foundation contains 2% salicylic acid is pretty major. Salicylic acid (a BHA) is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and helps reduce acne bacteria in the skin and fight inflammation. Although 2% doesn’t sound like much, it’s super powerful, so you’re likely to notice a difference in your skin within a couple of weeks. One of our HB team used the bottle from start to finish (we actually caught her scraping it empty), and she noticed that the acne on her chin cleared up considerably. It also wears well throughout the day: it doesn’t move and the coverage remains consistent. Which just goes to explain why Kourtney Kardashian insists that whoever’s doing her daily glam, uses this foundation.

What we didn’t like: We struggled to achieve a full coverage finish, despite the fact that it’s said to be buildable. We’d describe it as a light to medium-coverage foundation. Again, this foundation also has a minimal shade range, so we hope the brand expands this soon.

Our verdict: This foundation is great if you want light or medium-coverage with a fresh and dewy finish. Plus, there’s no doubt that it’s good for your skin as there was a visible improvement in our skin after a month of use. However, if you like a full-coverage vibe, this is probably not the foundation for you.

What do you guys think of this foundation? We love the concept and product, but the price (and lack of shades) is a big concern.
