Who doesn’t live for a “best of” list? We certainly do, and we just can’t help ourselves when it comes to an end-of-year tally, in the makeup category. Between the jewel-toned eyes, faux freckles, 90s brows, and lavender lips that came across our feed, we couldn’t have asked for a more impressive 2018. Which is exactly why we need to take a moment to pay our respects to the artists and stars that made the past year look so good. And who knows? Kim Kardashian’s Cobalt Blue Eyes
When Kim K debuted a new cosmetics collab with bestie slash go-to glam guru Mario Dedivanovic earlier this year, the ‘gram went wild over her sultry, oh so good eye. “Libra,” a metallic cobalt blue, is one of ten shades in their KKW X MARIO 10 Pan Eyeshadow Palette, $45, and has special meaning for both the makeup lovers, as they share the astrological sign. It’s also a hue she rebelled against early on in her basic (ahem, smokey) days, but obviously, it’s working for her.
Rihanna’s ‘90s Pencil-Thin Brows
Rihanna broke down some brick wall level barriers in September 2018 as the first woman of color to ever grace the cover of British Vogue’s prestigious fashion issue, but the hype around her beauty look was even more major. Creative Isamaya Ffrench spearheaded the creative inspo (along with Rih herself, natch) and together they pulled off that razor-sharp skinny brow reminiscent of the ‘90s, along with a glossy, wine-stained, ombré lip and some flawless AF powdered-up skin. Needless to say, we’re still recovering.
Ariana Grande’s Barely-There Makeup and Faux Freckles
Also causing headlines for British Vogue this year was Ariana Grande. Coming in HOT with a complete makeunder complete with faux freckles by makeup artist Mark Carrasquillo, the usually ultra glam singer let down her hair and left her liquid liner at home for a more subdued Ari. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though, girl still had the ultimate matte lip going on and those teeny tiny frecks? We hope she’ll be saying “one last time” to them in the future.
Martha Hunt’s Otherworldy Crystal Work
Leave it to Georgi Sandev to apply 42 Swarovski crystals to Martha Hunt’s peepers for the most mesmerizing CFDA Awards moment evah. Seriously, we don’t care how irritating or heavy lidded these might be (or make you), it was all worth it. Rhinestone embellished eyes for the win.
Jennifer Lopez’s Graphic Liner Lid

We always bow down to the contour QUEEN Jenny from the block, but we straight up have to hand it to her (and former MUA turned current once more, Scott Barnes) for this one. That skin, that glow – that sparkly silver eye outlined in kohl… The next time J. Lo starts a sentence with “All I Have,” we’ll know she’s referring to the baddest team in the beauty game.
Emily Ratajkowski’s Vixen Vibes
Remember that time Emily dressed up as Raquel Welch in One Million Years BC for Halloween and made us all drool with envy? Same. And sure, the body is usually what makes people do a stop and stare, but this time EmRata was slayin’ em with her H-Ween beauty look, which could not have been more on point. If you know makeup maestro Hung Vanngos’ work, then you can surely spot his signature artistry a mile away (and all over her face). Black and blue lips were all been there, done that by everyone from Rihanna to Hailey Baldwin this year, but when you want to take it a step further like Bey, you opt for gray (SLAY).
