Removing individual lashes can be dangerous – anyone who has tried will know the pain of accidentally tugging on their real lash – ouch! Which is why it happened to be the #3 most Googled beauty question, and for good reason. Full strips come off in one fell swoop, but when it comes to more delicate individual lashes, you never want to risk pulling off one of your real ones in addition to the faux. Plus, the type of lash glue you use will determine just how easy these little guys release. Here are three celeb makeup artist-approved ways to take ‘em off. You’re welcome.

1. “I like to first remove all eye makeup using a Face Halo, $22, or the Almay Makeup Remover Ultra Hydrating Cleansing Towelette, $5, then I use a separate towelette to gently take off the lashes by applying it to my lashes and allowing the glue to break down. This way they come off easily and you’re not pulling your own lashes off with it.” – Kira Nasrat
2. “I apply La Mer The Cleansing Micellar Water, $95, to a cotton tip and run across the lash line to loosen the glue and I always lift from the outside edge and gently pull the lashes off in one go.” – Tobi Henne
3. “I apply lashes with Ardell Duo Lash Adhesive, $6.50. It’s strong enough to keep your lashes in place, but not hard to remove with eye make remover. When you’re ready to take them off, apply eye makeup remover and gently pull them out with your finger. If you have a stubborn lash that doesn’t want to come off, use an oil-based cleanser or face oil and it’ll do the trick.” – Quinn Murphy.
The lesson? Soak a cotton pad with your weapon of choice (micellar water, eye makeup remover, or cleansing oil) and let it sit on your eye for at least 20 seconds to loosen and dissolve the glue. Then gently peel away lashes with your finger. If they’re still not easy to remove, then soak another cotton pad in your solution and let it sit on your eye for longer, before trying again. Et voila! You’re lash-free.
Never forget to clean your lashes after each use – they’ll last SO much longer.
