morphe eyeshadow palette review

If there’s one product we’ll never get bored of, it’s new eyeshadow – especially when they’re less than $1 per shade. Morphe is basically the king of eyeshadow palettes for beauty lovers who don’t want to break the bank, so when we got sent the new Morphe 35V Stunning Vibes and 35M Boss Mood palettes, both $24, we couldn’t wait to try them out and play with all the gorgeous colors. But, are these super affordable shadows actually any good?! We tried both of them out:

35V Stunning Vibes Artistry Palette

35V Stunning Vibes Artistry Palette

What is: A 35 shade eyeshadow palette with a mix of essential neutral shades, jewel tones, and cool tones. The palette has five formulas: two mattes with micro shimmer (little black book, Tantalizing), 17 mattes, six shimmers, seven metallics, and three duo-chromes.

What we liked: The diversity of the shades is ahhhhmazing! We love that there’s a selection of blues, plums, browns, oranges, and pretty, classic pink, beige, and bronzey shimmers – and who doesn’t need those? The deep plum and nude matte shades super smooth, and they have really nice pigmentation. The formula for this palette may be different to previous palettes, as some of the other mattes feel a lot drier and the pigmentation isn’t as intense (which is unusual for Morphe palettes). The shimmers and metallics pick up perfectly with fingers or a small dense brush saturated with a little fixing spray.

What we didn’t like: Some shades take a long time to build with a blending brush and are a little tricky to blend. There are also a few shades that don’t combine very well, and so the colors end up looking a little muddy. We definitely recommend using an eyeshadow primer to minimize the need for having to repeatedly dip into the palette and build some of the shades for maximum impact. There’s a little fallout, but only the usual amount.

The verdict: We love the shade range, and the price is insane, but we wish some of the shades were a little smoother and blended together better. If you stick to monochromatic looks, the pigments work much better together, but otherwise, this is the kind of palette that only experienced makeup users will find easy to play with.

35M Boss Mood Artistry Palette

35M Boss Mood Artistry Palette

What it is: A 35-shade eyeshadow palette featuring, olives, red, purples, browns, and rich sienna shades. The palette has four formulas: 17 mattes, two mattes with micro shimmer (Sultry Ways, Center of Attention), and 16 matte and shimmer shades.

What we liked: We love that there are so many looks you can create with this palette, and we’re especially obsessed with the green and olive shades. There’s a really good balance of mattes and shimmers, which means you can find complementary shimmers for each matte tone. The shimmers are intense when you use a finger or a small dense brush, and the shade Light of the Party (top left corner) is perfect for a pop on the inner corners.

What we didn’t like: A lot of the shades are really difficult to pick up on a standard blending brush, especially the green shades. We recommend first laying down a primer or white shadow base, to make the intensity of the pigments more intense, and you may want to use a more densely packed brush to lay down the color before blending.

The verdict: The shades are bomb, but be prepared to work to blend and get the pigment payoff you would usually expect from a Morphe palette. For the price of this and the stunning collection of shades, we really can’t complain, but we do feel that the pigmentation isn’t as impressive as previous Morphe palettes.
