If there’s one beauty trend that has dominated over the last five years, it’s full lips. But as time has passed, we’ve moved past overly filled lips to a natural-looking yet voluptuous pout. Don’t worry, if you weren’t born with Marilyn Monroe lips – let’s be real, who was – you can fake it without the fillers and just a few clever makeup tricks. Trust us: a little highlight and contour can go a long way. Here’re our favorite makeup hacks that’ll give you naturally-looking bigger lips in minutes…

1. Conceal & Contour

Just as you would conceal and contour to sculpt your cheekbones, you can conceal and contour to make your lips look full AF. Here’s how:

Conceal: Before you apply your lip color, apply a full coverage foundation like our Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation, $50. This will not only give your lip color a more even finish, but it’ll also create the perfect base for you to overline and contour your lips.

Contour: Using an ashy-colored contour cream, start by lining above your Cupid’s bow and continue along the top line of your lip. Then go underneath the bottom to create a subtle shadow, then blend away. This added width will make your lips look instantly fuller.

2. Overline Your Lips

Overlining your lips is pretty much every makeup artist’s secret weapon – everyone does it! The most important thing to remember is to start small and gradually build in size, otherwise it’ll look unnatural. If you’re new to overlining, start with a nude color that complements your skin tone, then begin outlining the lips by drawing just slightly over the natural line. Here’s our step-by-step guide:

Step 1 – PREP: Exfoliate your lips with a warm damp towel and sugar, then blot with a little lip balm.
Step 2 – PRIME: Add a touch of foundation all over your lips to create a blank canvas.
Step 3 – DEFINE: Draw an X at the Cupid’s bow, then outline the lips, being careful not to go too far outside your natural lip line. Make sure they’re even and symmetrical.
Step 4 – FILL: Connect your liner at the corners and fill the lips with liner, fading towards the center. Apply your matching lip shade, or a lip shade one shade lighter than your lip liner, all over.

3. Highlight & Add Gloss!

A little highlighter and a touch of gloss will instantly make your lips look bigger. Add a little shimmer to your Cupid’s bow and to the center of your bottom lip to open up your lip. Use a champagne-toned crème highlighter as this is the most natural shade and dab it onto your lips. We also like to use our Huda Beauty Lip Strobe in Ritzy, $26. You can also add a nude-gloss to take your lip look to the next level. We love the Milani Keep It Full Nourishing Lip Plumper, $9, which has tons of stunning shades and has a subtle plumping effect.
