It’s no secret that here at Huda Beauty we’re obsessed with DIYs. No matter what the problem is, whether it’s brittle hair or stressed-out skin, our first point of call will always be a DIY. Right now, like so many people, we’re experiencing maskne, AKA localized breakouts and skin sensitivity caused by wearing a protective face mask. To help calm and heal our skin, we’ve been using a DIY mask that’s packed with soothing ingredients, so of course, we had to share our recipe with you. Here’s our DIY Maskne-Soothing mask, and how to DIY it at home.

Why This DIY Mask Works to Help Maskne

Oats, honey, and turmeric are three amazing beauty-boosting ingredients, so naturally, when you combine them into a powerful superfood mask, the results are major. Oats alone are a rich source of soothing amino acids that fight inflammation in the skin, and because they contain saponins, they gently exfoliate and help absorb excess oil, decreasing the likelihood of a maskne breakout. They’re also rich in sugars, oils, and starches which are incredibly soothing for your skin while the rich lipid content locks in moisture and acts as a humectant to help hydrate.

Next up is turmeric, which has powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to ward off acne-bacteria while calming existing pimples. Finally, honey – our all-time fave DIY ingredient – helps draw moisture into the skin, and it also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial powers. As we said, oats, honey, and turmeric are three bomb DIY ingredients.

Ingredients

1/2 cup oats
1.5 tsp turmeric powder
4 tablespoons honey
Water

Gently cook the oats with the same amount of water until soft (around five mins), then leave to cool for 20 minutes. Stir in the turmeric and honey. Using a brush or your fingers, apply the mask to your face and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and follow with a hydrating moisturizer.
