How To Recreate My Mercury Retrograde Makeup Looks

Mercury retrograde look book

The Mercury Retrograde campaign shoot was our biggest shoot to date – it was quite literally out of this world! My team and I pulled out all the stops, from the crazy foil dress my amazing stylist, Jihae, HAND made (how insane?!?) to the custom wigs and the set design.

Check out all the behind the scenes action:

Of course, the makeup is what the shoot was all about, and I had so much fun playing with the different shades to create these stunning looks for the campaign. The best thing is each look is so easy to recreate! That’s one of the things I love most about the Mercury Retrograde palette; it’s so diverse and easy to use. You can choose to wear one single shade and still have a dope look or you can layer it up to create a multi-dimensional bold look. Check it out:

Look 1: Cosmic Empress

Step 1: Apply Off Balance all over the lid and into a bold wing shape using a blending brush. I used the Contour Brush from our Mercury Retrograde Brush Set, $44. Use Off-Balance along your lower lash line using a densely packed brush.
Step 2: Using a sponge-tipped eyeshadow brush, mix together Nebula and Super Moon. Apply it to the lid starting at the inner corner blending outwards.
Step 3: Apply Ultraviolet to the center of the lid using a sponge-tipped eyeshadow brush or your finger.
Step 5: Take a small smudging brush and apply Karma to the lower lash line.
Step 6: I then applied my own DIY sticker liner, which I created using sticky holographic paper.
Step 7: If you’re feeling extra, place small circular gems along the top of your brows using a pair of tweezers and lash glue.

Look 2: Ultraviolet Space Queen

Step 1: Apply Off Balance in your crease and pull it out into a bold wing shape using a blending brush. I used the Contour Brush from our Mercury Retrograde Brush Set, $44. Use Off-Balance along your lower lash line using a densely packed brush.
Step 2: Apply Mercury all over the lid using a sponge-tipped eyeshadow brush or your finger.
Step 3: Grab a smoking brush and mix together Hot Mess and Vortex, then using a stippling motion, apply the shadow along the crease and out into a wing shape, pressing the pigment into the skin.
Step 4: Take an intense black eyeliner like our Life Liner, $25, and draw an elongated wing. For more deets on how to perfect your liner look, read this.
Step 5: To complete the look, apply a pair of long, dramatic lashes like the Huda Beauty Hoodie Lash, $19.

Look 3: Galactic Barbarella

Step 2: Grab a smoking brush and mix together Hot Mess and Vortex, then using a stippling motion, apply the shadow along the crease and out into a wing shape, pressing the pigment into the skin.
Step 3: Next layer Mercury along the crease and wing to add drama and definition.
Step 4: To brighten the eye, apply Supernova to the center of the lid using a sponge-tipped eyeshadow brush or your finger.
Step 5: To really brighten the lid, you can use Supermoon as a topper on top of Supernova to make it really pop.

I’ve been so inspired by the amazing looks in Euphoria! This bold look with rhinestones is super simple to recreate and the eye-popping Haze shade makes a statement all by itself.

To create this look I literally used two shades!

This was my look for the Vogue Women Of The Year Awards. We hadn’t revealed the palette yet so I felt like this was a super special look. The entire look was an ode to the palette from the starry dress to the rhinestones in my baby hairs.
