While you might think trends are born in luxury design houses or on the red carpet, most trends are actually started by you. Yes, you read that right. Trend forecasting companies and brands assess the sentiment of the world – they consider the political, economic, social, and emotional climate and try to predict what the world will be craving and what it’ll naturally gravitate towards.

And this year if there’s one thing we all want – we all NEED – it’s to live life in color. After the struggle of 2020 and the continued monotony of life during a pandemic, we’re ready to inject some life, joy, and color back into our lives in a major way. We’re no longer craving the comfort of cozy materials and muted tones, the world is lusting over sequins, opulence, decadence, and bright eye-popping hues that spark SO MUCH JOY.

This particularly bold trend translates effortlessly into the world of beauty and colors galore were seen all over the runway and on the FROW during NYFW, and most recently LFW. Bold, primary hues were splashed across the runway and used to create literal art on eyelids. We saw abstract face paintings, 3D makeup, and fierce graphic lines, as well as more wearable pops of color and blush draping.

The colors that appeared most heavily were primary hues, blue and red, while we saw the classic red lip showcased at shows like Micheal Kors; on the catwalk the hue graduated from lipstick to an eye makeup staple. Not only are we seeing it on celebs like Rihanna, but all over the runways, including Dion Lee and LaQuan Smith… Yes the infamous Julia Fox opening. And don’t worry if painterly strokes of blue and red feel a little too bold, we also saw more subtle bursts of color at shows like Jason Wu.

To inspire your next makeup lewk, we’ve curated the ultimate feel-good colorful mood board. Get ready to reach for your makeup bag…
