7 Celeb Hair Hacks You Need To Know
Our Instagram feed is always full of BTS videos of celebs and their glam squads getting glammed up. And as much as we love hearing from Hollywood’s most in-demand hairstylists, sometimes the celebs themselves have some seriously bomb hair hacks. From Adriana Lima’s nourishing DIY mask to Blake Lively’s makeshift toner, here are seven hacks that’ll transform your locks.
1. Salma Hayek and Blake Lively’s Weird Hair Masks
Ok, so this one is as weird and wonderful as it gets. Celebrity goddesses Salma Hayek and Blake Lively revealed that they pass on keratin treatments in favor of two kitchen condiments: ketchup and mayonnaise. Salma uses organic mayonnaise, which contains hair-healthy ingredients like egg, lemon juice, and vinegar, to boost shine and lock in moisture.
Blake, who was also taught the mayonnaise hair hack by her mother, also likes to use Tomato Ketchup as a toner to color correct her blonde locks if they ever have an ashy or green tint. Just apply the Mayonnaise or Tomato Ketchup from root to tip and rinse with shampoo 15 minutes later. Gross, but kinda genius, especially at a time when you can’t get to the hairdressers!
2. Catherine Zeta-Jones’ DIY Hair Rinse
If there’s one celebrity we’ll happily take hair advice from, it’s Catherine Zeta-Jones – her long flowing locks are stunning – even if the hack is a little unorthodox… Catherine reportedly washes her hair with beer. Apparently, the hops and barley residue add volume and body and the minerals are good for your hair and scalp. Shampoo your hair as usual, then once rinsed out, use the beer as a rinse, and massage into your scalp and hair. After 5 minutes, rinse out the beer, and if necessary, add a little conditioner to your ends.
3. Adriana Lima’s Avo Hair Mask
While we’re all aware of how delicious avocados are, did you know they’re also an amazing DIY beauty ingredient? Adriana definitely does! She uses avocadoes in her fave DIY hair mask to nourish her hair. Avocados are packed with healthy fats, which help to strengthen the hair follicle while adding moisture. They’re also a great source of biotin, which encourages healthy hair growth. The result? Strong, shiny hair.
Adrianna’s DIY Hair Mask: Mash one ripe avocado, mix with one egg yolk and two tablespoons of coconut oil. Massage onto hair and scalp and leave for 20 minutes before washing as usual. Side note: it also works wonders for taming frizzy hair.
4. Solange’s Volume Fix
If you have curly, textured hair, don’t shy away from adding volume, instead take note from Solange who uses humidity to add body to her curls. She told Glamour her quick hack; “I stand outside the shower and let the steam make my hair bigger. Also, I never really shampoo; I co-wash instead.” Co-washing means only using conditioner to help maintain and protect your curl pattern and hair health. 5. Kendall’s Texture Tip
Adding texture and volume is Kendall’s main goal. She explained, “My hair is so stick straight and silky. So when I sleep with it wet and wake up in the morning, it has this nice texture to it. That’s my version of doing my hair.” We do this regularly, and it definitely adds definition and bounce to straight and S-shaped curls.
6. Priyanka’s Scalp Revitalizer
Priyanka Chopra is famous for her insane DIY beauty hacks and this scalp-saving hack is just as genius as the rest. She recently told Byrdie, “Give your hair a great natural deep-conditioning treatment by massaging warm coconut oil into your scalp and hair. Leave it one for about an hour, and then shampoo it off. Do this about once a week and you will soon see results.”
7. Kate Moss’ Instant Face Lift
This hack doesn’t involve any DIY ingredients, instead, an old Hollywood industry secret. In a recent interview with Vogue, Kate Moss shared her tip, “A great trick they do on photoshoots is doing these little braids underneath your hair to pull your skin up, like a little lift. It’s amazing. That’s an old Hollywood trick. I think they had to know all that stuff before there was retouching, they had to do it all by hand.”
