If you’ve ever found yourself drooling over a celeb makeup look, green with envy over their long, sexy lashes, we bet you that they’re secretly wearing individual falsies. Yes, single clusters of false lashes are practically every makeup artist’s best-kept secret. Not only do individual lashes allow you to customize the final result depending on your eye shape or the #lewk you’re aiming to achieve, but they can also take you from a natural look to a super glam moment with ease. Okay, so now we’ve spilled the tea, here’s our pro guide to individual falsies, just in time for party season. Thank us later when the compliments flood in.

Step 1: Find The Right Lashes For You

When it comes to nailing any beauty look, finding the right product for you is essential, and that’s also the case with eyelashes. In general, lashes come in three lengths; short, medium, and long, and in a variety of volume options, from fine to full. Individual lashes come in mini lash clusters, where multiple lashes are bound together – applying them lash by lash would take forever! Some individual lash options include our Huda Beauty Classic Alyssa Lash, $18. We also love KISS Lash Couture LuXtensions, $12, as the flat base and tapered ends mimic actual lashes for a natural final look.

To ensure your falsies blend seamlessly, try and find singular lashes that match your natural lash type. For example, if you have fine but long lashes, opt for fine lashes with small clusters. You can also apply different lengths to create drama that accentuates your eyes; use longer sets towards the outer corner and shorter lashes in the center. We love to add fullness to the outer corner of our lashes for a sexy cat-eye.

Another essential part of the process is finding the right lash glue. If you’re opting for a more natural final look, use a clear lash glue like our Huda Beauty Sticky Tack Lash Glue, $14; it’s completely clear and re-stickable, making it ideal for everyone, from beginners to pros. Alternatively, if you’re going for a full glam feel or wearing liner, use black lash glue that will effortlessly blend in.

Step 2: Master Single Lash Application

Before you even think about applying false lashes, ensure that your eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara are all set and ready to go. Applying mascara before the falsies will give the lashes a stronger base for more durable wear; plus, it gives them a base to blend with, making the final look more seamless.

Once you’ve locked your eye look in place, grab your glue, and place a small dollop on the back of your hand or a palette dish. Pick up each lash with tweezers and dip the base into the glue. Wait for up to 60 seconds to allow the glue to get tacky – you’ll notice it starts to thicken – this will allow the lash to instantly bond to your lash line.

Now, it’s time to apply the lash. Tilt your head back so that your chin is raised and you’re looking down. Carefully place the lash on your lash line, beginning at the outer corner and working inwards. Move inwards, applying as many as you need to create your desired level of length and fullness. Once you’re happy with the final look, wait a few minutes to ensure they’re dried completely. Now it’s time to apply a little pressure to ensure they’re securely in place: use your thumb and index finger to lightly press the false lashes onto your natural lashes.

How to Remove your Falsies like a Pro

As gorgeous as they may look, just like regular strip lashes, these babies need to be removed before your head hits the pillow. To remove your lashes, soak a cotton pad in an oil-based makeup remover and hold over your eye for a few seconds to break down the glue until they side off effortlessly. Continue to remove the rest of your makeup regularly.
