September can be kinda depressing… Long summer nights, dewy skin, and Insta perfect vacays seem like a distant memory. But for the fashion and beauty world, it means another thing entirely: a month of new, mouthwatering looks served up by the fashion elite, aka Fashion Month. Literally, nothing could dampen the spirit of NYFW, even the gloomy AF weather. From the pastel lids and baby pink buzzcuts to the smokey wet eyes, all of the looks were BEYOND cool. Yet, no doubt these makeup looks will have opinions divided, some will fill your eyes with heart-shaped emojis and others, well, you’ll happily give them a miss! So channel your best Anna Wintour attitude, and get voting…
Pastel shadows and matching buzz cuts at Marc Jacobs
We don’t usually match our eyeshadow with our hair color, but when it’s millennial pink, why TF not?
Recreate the look: This look is super easy to recreate yourself. Apply a pastel pink eyeshadow to your eyelid all the way to the brow bone with a soft blending brush. Think of it as a soft wash of color, so gently tap your brush after picking up pigment to create the smoothest finish with no messy fallout. Then, use a liquid liner, like our fav, super precise Fenty Flyliner, $20, and beginning from the inner corner of your eye, follow the natural curve of your lash line, extending it into a curved flick.
Bright Pastel Lids at Savage x Fenty
There were sooooo many different looks on the Savage x Fenty runway, and none of them were subtle. From turquoise floating cut creases to pastel purple lids. But the question is, are these looks reserved for the fash-packs or would you be bold enough to try them out yourself?
Recreate the look: To recreate Gigi’s sleek pastel eyeshadow, Rihanna’s makeup artist Priscilla Ono used the Fenty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Wild Violet, $18. So find your fav cream, sheen lipstick, apply it to the lid, and then blend the color in with a dense brush. We recommend priming the lid before, to make sure the color stays put all day long, we love the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $24.
Glitter lids at Halpern
Halpern’s beauty look is solid proof that the glitter trend is here to stay – like, forever. Season after season, we’re seeing new glittery lids and we’re high key into it.
Recreate the look: The makeup artist at Halpern said that to create this look, she applied lash glue to the lid, then the glitter, before finally outlining the glitter lid with black eyeliner. To remove any glitter fall out, grab some tape and press it against the skin gently: this will pick up even the tiniest sparkles. If you’re totally vibing this look, but feel like it may be a little much to wear on a daily basis, you can always use a glitter eyeshadow, like the shade Cosmo in our Desert Dusk Palette, $68, or we love Stila’s Magnificent Metals Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow, $30, which have an intense shimmer and are super easy to use.
Wet Smokey Eyes at Tom Ford
Glossy, wet eyeshadow has been around for a while now, but this sleek, smokey metallic eye is next level. We’re definitely going to be recreating this: it’s ideal for a night out as it’s beyond sultry.
Recreate the look: To get this glossy effect, it’s a five-step process: you need to prime, prime again, apply shadow, blend and set. Check out this post to find out how to perfect the look.
Jeremy Scott: Foiled Lips
Jeremy Scott is known for his daring looks and this makeup look is no exception, yet because he’s balanced the extra AF metallic lips with a bare face, it totally works (for us, anyway).
Recreate the look: For the glitter/foiled lip effect, start by applying a matte base color, like the Huda Beauty Liquid Mattes, $20. To make sure there’s no glitter fall out, add a thin layer of translucent powder around the outline of your lips. Then gently dab the lips with a thin layer of glitter glue using a flat, angled brush, (our fav glue is the NYX Profession Makeup Glitter Prime, $7), then gently press the glitter on top. Dust off the excess translucent powder and any excess glitter, and finish with a setting spray (mouth closed!).
