7 Lipsticks That Flatter Everyone... Or Your Money Back
When Maybelline created their Made For All Lipstick Collection, they made a big statement: “Universal shades that complement every skin tone.” Sometimes just finding the perfect shade of red can feel like searching for a unicorn, so naturally, we were hyped that maybe, just maybe, Maybelline had done the hard work for us and solved all our lipstick-matching problems.
The Made For All Lipstick By Color Sensational Collection (just $7.50 each) comprises seven shades ranging from pink and purple to red and brown, which they say have been “obsessively tested on 50 diverse skin tones” by a team of makeup artists who conducted over 2,500 evaluations! They’re so convinced you’ll suit the lipstick that they’ll even give you your money back if you don’t agree. Okay, so Maybelline has clearly put some hard work into this – we were more than intrigued, so naturally, we put this to the test at Huda Beauty HQ.
The results? Well, we were VERY impressed! We were pretty certain there would be at least a couple of shades that didn’t suit all skin tones, but actually, we were pleasantly surprised. Even if we didn’t love ALL the shades on ourselves, there was no denying that they didn’t look bad. In fact, most of us got complimented on some of the bolder shades we wouldn’t normally reach for.
The formula: It wasn’t just the color range that excited us though, the formula was super buttery and easy to apply, and shockingly long-lasting for such a creamy formula. The deep red and purple shades had a semi-staining effect and even lasted through lunch, although the paler shades didn’t stain or stand the food test. That said, even though these aren’t transfer-proof, they do last really well (at least four hours) and feel super hydrating and comfortable on the lips.
The finish: One swipe gives immediate color payoff, but two layers create a fully saturated lip. The finish is kinda ‘wet’ with a subtle sheen, but it’s not glossy. There is one matte finish in the collection, Red-For-Me, which looks matte without looking dull.
The shades: Spice-For-Me, a burnt sienna orangey-brown, looked amazing on medium to dark skin tones, but wasn’t a popular shade among the fairer skin tones in the office. The two red shades, Ruby-For-Me and Red-For-Me, the purple shade, Plum-For-me, and the hot pink shade, Fucshia-For-Me, looked divine on everyone. Mauve-For-Me and Pink-For-Me also looked great on everyone, especially fair to deep complexions, but weren’t the fave shades for rich complexions.
The Verdict: While do agree that these shades do complement all skin tones, there’s also a chance one just might not be to your personal taste. So, if you don’t like wearing hot pink, don’t get the hot pink shade, but if you do love mauve or red, it’s pretty safe to say these will look great on you. If you don’t love the result, at least you can get your money back, right?
