This Is Our Secret To Getting The Best Tan EVER!

Summer is here and that means along with slathering on the SPF, we’re getting our (responsible) tan on. And, while we know all the derms tell us to avoid tanning, it’s summer and we can’t help ourselves – sun-kissed skin gives us major goddess’ing vibes! So, as long as we’re applying suncream religiously every two hours, and avoiding peak sunshine time (11 am to 1 pm), we allow ourselves a little sunshine worshipping.
But achieving the perfect golden glow isn’t always easy; whether you just don’t tan easily or your tan barely lasts a day or two. So, when we saw a tanning solution that gave a rich deep tan, needless to say, we couldn’t wait to try it. After all, it’s tanning season year-round here in Dubai. And after testing out the Bali Body Natural Tanning Oil, we can confirm it’s easily the best tanning lotion we’ve tried. Here’s everything you need to know…

If you haven’t heard of Bali Body, chances are you’ve seen it on Instagram in an effortlessly stylized #shelfie. The Melbourne-based brand is an influencer fave, and we totally understand why. Firstly, the packaging is super cool and the square bottles make for the perfect flat lay, but mainly, the formulas themselves are genuinely something to rave about. Bali Body focuses on natural ingredients that nourish and restore the skin while providing long-lasting results. Plus, they’re vegan-friendly, for any vegan lovers!
The Best Tanning Lotion, Aka The Bali Body Tanning Oil
Okay, so now for the juicy details – the tanning oil. Within the Bali Body suncare range, there are four types of body oil (plus versions with and without SPF), as well as a moisturizing sunscreen and a lip balm. We tried out the Watermelon Tanning Oil SPF6, $23, and the Natural Tanning and Body Oil SPF6, $23, and got an amazing deep tan with both. We also fell in love with the Shimmering Body Oil, $30, which has fine glitters in to give your skin a gorgeous bronzed shimmer.
The plant-based oil is a combination of coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and jojoba oil; all of which will majorly enhance your tan while simultaneously hydrating your skin. The formula also features antioxidant powerhouse vitamin E, which help protect your skin against aging free-radicals that break down collagen in the skin. Even when you’re not heading into the sun, the oils also work as a daily body oil and they make our skin feel so soft and smooth. It also smells delicious, and just as it promised, it gave our skin a really rich tan. After one day in the sun, our skin was beautifully bronzed (even on cooler skin tones that don’t typically tan easily), and we were seriously impressed. The only thing we will say is, there’s not a lot of tanning oil in each bottle and it is quite pricey, however, we did find a little went a long way.

Never Forget SPF
Of course, we can’t mention tanning without reminding you guys of the importance of using sunscreen. In short: it’s non-negotiable. If you go into the sun and leave your skin unprotected, you’re leaving it exposed and increasing the likelihood of getting sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles, as well as skin cancer. This is why it’s essential that you apply sunscreen with (at least) SPF 30 and 5-star UVA rating to protect your skin against both UVA and UVB rays. We love the Bioderma Photoderm MAX Crème SPF 50+, $15, for our face, and the SVR Sun Secure Spray SPF 50+, for our body.

When you’re using a tanning oil, slather on sunscreen before you apply the oil, and make sure you top up every two hours, even if your tanning oil says it contains SPF – if it’s under 30, it’s not good enough! Also, make sure you apply your SPF at least twenty minutes before you enter the sun, as it takes this amount of time to activate.
The No-Sun Tanning Solution

If you love yourself a golden glow but you don’t want to run the risk of UV damage or you’re currently living in a san-sun location, then Bali Body also has a Self Tanning Mousse, $30. The mousse is lightweight and fast drying so it’s easy to apply and we got absolutely zero streaks when we used their luxe tanning mitt.
The great thing about the formula is it has color guide technology so that it tailors to your skin tone. Although, depending on how deep you want your tan to be, you can layer it up – we used two to three layers for a rich tan and we only left it on for four hours before rinsing. Despite the fact that there’s only one shade, we tried it on fair, medium, and tan skin tones here at HB HQ, and it worked well on each of them. The formula is also enriched with natural ingredients to hydrate the skin, like coffee seed, pomegranate, and chamomile extract.
