You only have to watch a couple of YouTube tutorials or Instagram transformation videos to see that a little contour can go a long way – aka, completely alter your face! But finding the right tool to contour like a pro is just as essential as knowing where and how to contour. If you still struggle with the latter, check out our guide to contouring to flatter your face shape here – after all, there’s no one size fits all when it comes to contouring!

Our fave, most recent contouring find isn’t a contouring tool, it’s a $12 foundation stick, and we’re obsessed with using it to snatch our cheekbones. The Maybelline SuperStay Multi-Use Foundation Stick, $12, is a cream-to-matte, full-coverage foundation stick that also comes with a sponge blender on the other end. We love it as a contour stick, as the formula is pigmented and rich, which means it doesn’t just blend away (like many contour stick formulas tend to do). And, because you need to use much less product, your $12 contour stick will last you much longer.

The other plus of using this foundation stick to contour with is that there are way more shades for you to choose from – 16, instead of the typical 3-shade color spectrum you would get with most contour sticks. This makes finding one that works well for your unique skin tone much easier. We like to use a contour shade that has a slightly cooler, ashier undertone, as this gives a more natural look, and we would typically use a shade three or four shades darker than our skin tone, but this is personal preference. For a more subtle look, you could opt for just two shades darker.

The foundation formula is also really full coverage and stays in place all day, while the blending sponge is perfect for target contouring that doesn’t ‘suck up’ too much of the product. If we were actually to use this as a foundation, we wouldn’t use the sponge to blend it out, as it’s a little too small and dense, but this is exactly why it’s great for contouring.
