I Tried The K-Beauty Product That Keeps Selling Out At Sephora

K-Beauty

GLOW RECIPE watermelon glow

Over the last year, I’ve become a little bit obsessed with K-Beauty – it’s not just the cute packaging, but the formulas are bomb. I love that they use unusual ingredients like snail mucus (I know it sounds gross, but it’s SO hydrating), placenta, and amazing natural ingredients – the whole K-Beauty routine is just such a satisfying, sensory experience.

Since discovering K-Beauty site GlowRecipe.com, we noticed that their watermelon skincare formulas, the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask and Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer, are selling out everywhere – literally, they can’t keep them in stock at Sephora. With so much hype around these, I just had to try them for myself, and for the last month, I’ve been diligently testing them.

First of all, they’re both packaged SO beautifully! The outside packaging is really clean and simple, and when you open it, the interior is covered in watermelon print, which is just so cute. The moisturizer is held in a glass bottle, and the sleeping mask is in a glass jar, giving it a really luxurious feel. Both formulas are packed with watermelon’s protecting antioxidants, amino acids, and skin-restoring vitamins, which have been used to soothe irritated and inflamed skin in Korea for years. And yes, it does smell like watermelon! If you don’t like that scent, these won’t be for you, but for me, I literally couldn’t wait to use them because they smelled SO divine.

Watermelon Pink Juice Moisturizer, $39

What it is: A lightweight, gel-like moisturizer packed with watermelon extract, hydrating hyaluronic acid, and soothing botanicals. The formula can be used on both normal and sensitive skin, and because it’s so lightweight and non-comedogenic (it doesn’t block pores), it’s ideal for oily and acne-prone complexions too. If you have dry skin, you can use this as a serum before you apply your moisturizer – I love to do this when my skin feels extra dry.

What it does: This potent formula keeps skin hydrated, nourished, and protected all day long.

What we thought: This is such an incredible daytime moisturizer; it might even be my new go-to. I love the texture and how easy it is to spread on your skin without needing to rub too hard. The formula also sinks in really quickly, so I don’t feel like I have to wait a long time before I apply my primer or SPF, which is a real lifesaver in the mornings. It also makes a really good base for makeup, and it doesn’t make me oily throughout the day. My skin is on the drier side, but if you have very dry skin, you can definitely combine this with a heavier moisturizer to avoid dry patches creeping up through the day.

Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask, $45

watermelon glow sleeping mask

What it is: A breathable sleeping mask combining hydrating hyaluronic acid, seaweed extract, and exfoliating glycolic and lactic AHAs to smooth and plump skin overnight. You can apply a thick layer to use as a ten-minute mask, or you can simply apply it as the last step in your skincare routine before bed. It’s also pillow-proof, so you don’t need to worry about your pillowcase absorbing all the goodness instead of your skin.

What it does: This rich mask clarifies and tones while brightening dull complexions by gently dissolving dead skin cells. The result is you’ll wake up with plumper, baby-soft, glowing skin.

What we thought: Not only does it smell incredible, but I love the texture – it’s so strange, but it has this jelly-like, gelatinous consistency. You’re given a little spoon to mix the product before you apply it to ensure it’s properly combined. Once mixed, apply just two scoops. I found that it absorbed really quickly, and it didn’t have a sticky finish; it’s almost matte. However, I did notice that if I had already layered a lot of products, it would pill a little (when you use too much product, and it rolls into little balls). I find it’s best to gently smooth this on and then pat it to help it absorb and avoid product pilling. I didn’t find this as hydrating on my skin as I expected it to be, but I still really loved the whole experience of using it. I also tried this on a flight and wore it for the duration, and my skin felt so nourished and plump at the end of it instead of dry – which is amazing and actually far more convenient than my usual sheet mask!

The Verdict:

Overall, I will definitely continue to use both of these products, but if I had to pick one, the Watermelon Pink Juice Moisturizer takes first prize as it’s just the perfect daytime moisturizer. I definitely recommend these, especially if you have normal, oily, or acne-prone skin.

Ever since we tried this Watermelon collection we’ve made it our mission to try as many cool new formulas from Glow Recipe as possible, so stay tuned!
