What Is Iris?

The powdery heart note of many a fragrance, did you know that the iris flower has a whole host of skin-boosting benefits, too? Available in two forms, iris Florentina extract and iris root (or orris root), it packs a powerful punch when it comes to anti-aging skincare.

What Does Iris Do?

Iris possesses a high concentration of Isoflavones, which stimulate, strengthen and revitalize the dermis, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It’s particularly beneficial as we get older, as it compensates for our skin’s declining natural ability to regenerate and rejuvenate (clever, huh?).

As well as its restorative abilities, iris will give your skin a serious dose of TLC. It nourishes and conditions, improving overall dullness and leaving you with a plumper and more radiant complexion. Iris root, in particular, is known to regulate the skin’s moisture levels, boosting hydration. Plus, iris is an antioxidant, so it protects skin by neutralizing the damage free radicals (which come from pollution, the sun, chemicals and more) do – think sunspots, wrinkles, broken blood vessels and damaged elastin.

Who Should Use Iris?

If you prefer to steer clear of synthetic ingredients in favor of something a little more natural, then iris is a great alternative, especially for anti-aging products. But beware; it can irritate sensitive skin, so always do a patch test first.

How To Use Iris In Your Skincare Routine

Thanks to its natural anti-aging properties, iris is usually found in leave-on skincare products like masks, creams, and balms – so no matter how you choose to introduce it, iris can easily be incorporated into any stage of your regimen. Like most skincare products, you’re going to see the best results if you use it regularly – we recommend once a day, but always read the label.
