Our Honest Review Of Jaclyn Hill’s New Highlighter Collection
If anyone is known for their insane glow, Jaclyn Hill has to be it – let’s not forget her sell-out Champagne Pop Highlighter collab with Becca Cosmetics. After a hairy brand launch earlier this year, Jaclyn is back with a bang. So, while her first launch received a lot of controversy it certainly doesn’t define her and we’re psyched to try her newest launch, a Holiday Collection of bomb highlighters that will give you the glow you’ve been admiring on Jaclyn for years.
The collection includes two four-pan highlighter palettes, five shades of loose highlighter powders, five illuminating setting powders and three brushes. The packaging is sleek and simple, and definitely feels very luxe, which is reflected in the price point.
Accent Light Highlighter Palette, $49
What it is: A four-pan highlighter with two shade options. One is designed with four shades for medium to deep skin tones and the other is ideal for light to medium skin tones.
Glow levels: 5/5
What we thought: These highlighter palettes are super buttery and literally melt into the skin. The initial application gives a gorgeous, believable glow, but you can build it up to pop like Jaclyn easily.
The shades: The Flare works well for both medium and deep skin tones, although Glow Up (top left) was perhaps a little fair for rich skin tones but looks gorgeous on the inner corner. Turned On is a stunning pinkish-copper, which looked divine on both medium and rich tones. For fair and medium skin tones, The Flash palette has four cool-toned shades that look super pretty. If you have a warm medium or olive complexion, we recommend opting for the deeper, The Flare palette.
Bring The Light Brush Trio, $54
The brushes:
J01 Mood Light Powder Brush
J02 Accent Light Highlighter Brush
J03 Beaming Light Highlighter Brush
What we thought: All three brushes are made with synthetic hairs and each picked up and distributed the highlighter effortlessly. We’re not a huge fan of the glitter fade design, but we can’t deny these brushes give amazing application.
Our faves are the JO1, which has less dense bristles that are ideal for dispersing the highlighters for a more natural, glowy look. The J03 fan brush is perfection for concentrated application and for highlighting below the brows, the bridge of the nose and the Cupid’s bow.
Mood Light Luminous Powder, $32
What it is: An illuminating setting powder infused with diamond and rose quartz powders, designed to blur imperfections and give a radiant finish.
Glow levels: 2/5
What we thought: If you always set your makeup with powder but hate how it steals your glow and gives you a matte finish, then you will die for this. The powder is insanely lightweight, so lightweight that in the jar it looks like it balls together a little, but as soon as you apply it, it blends out and diffuses for the most gorgeous, subtle glow. It set our makeup in place all day long and gave us that dewy, luminous glow we all aspire to! We also used it to set our under-eye concealer, but if your concealer tends to crease, we recommend lightly baking and dusting this on top.
The shades: There are five shades in total and each gives a tailored glow for your skin tone. Dew Me and Brighten Up are ideal for fair to light skin tones, Carats for light to medium skin tones, Brilliant for medium to tan skin tones, and Feelin’ It is ideal for dark to deep skin tones.
Beaming Light Loose Highlighter, $24
What it is: Five insanely popping loose highlighters that give a wet-shine look for the ultimate Jaclyn glow.
Glow levels: 10/5
What we thought: These little highlighter pots are STUNNING! They give a next-level glow, so the only thing you need to be cautious of is how much you apply! Seriously, a little goes a VERY long way, so build this up carefully.
Tip: We recommend using a fluffy brush to diffuse the formula, then build up to your desired glow factor. If you love the pop, then go straight in with a dense brush, but be prepared to be blinding!
The shades: Five shades from white gold to coppery-bronze mean you can choose the perfect color to complement your skin tone. We loved the shade Amped, which is a peachy gold shade that looks divine on fair and medium skin tones, while Megawatt is a copper shade that is perfect for rich skin tones. Extra is a dazzling white gold shade and looks super bling even on fair skin tones, so use with caution – it is lit!
The verdict
Jaclyn has made a serious comeback! We love everything in the collection and it seriously comes through for #glowgoals. The Mood Light Luminous Powder is our new go-to for daytime, it’s the perfect powder to set your makeup for a believable glow. The Beaming Light Loose Powders are also incredible and definitely one for those of you who love to shine. If you prefer a more subtle highlight, we recommend trying one of the highlighter palettes.
