Kat Von D's New Brow Collection Might Be The Most Inclusive We've Ever Seen!

Brows

Kat Von Ds Rainbow Brow CollectionIf you follow me on Instagram you’ll know how seriously I take my brows – you’ll also know I’m not one to shy away from bold brow trends! Which means that finding the perfect brow products is always on my to-do list. So, when I heard that Kat Von D was FINALLY launching a brow collection, I was super excited to try it. I say finally because Kat has been creating seriously bomb makeup products for ten years now – she just recently celebrated her anniversary with limited edition pieces of some of her best products, like my fav eyeliner, the KVD Tattoo Liner. Kat is amazing at creating highly pigmented, long-wearing makeup, so for her to finally bring us a brow collection is a pretty big deal.

Of course, she came through and hit us with a brow pomade in 16 colors (yes, 16!), a unique brow powder and brow pencil, both in seven shades, and two brow brushes. I LOVE that she has released the pomade in so many shades, including seven vibrant colors, plus a white and a bleached brow shade, which is just so true to her quirky brand and perfect for creating unique brow looks. I tried the full collection, and here’s what I thought.

First of all, let me start by saying that Kat killed it with the packaging – she always does! The shade range for the pomades, powders, and brow pencils is also really impressive, with seven shades that go from fair to graphite black.

Brow Struck Dimension Powder, $20

What it is: A long-wearing brow powder infused with light-catching 3D pigments that give realistic dimension for a natural-looking brow. The hybrid formula combines a primer and a powder to enhance grip and wear-time, while light-reflecting pigments give a semi-metallic finish to mimic the natural sheen of real hairs.

What we thought: When I first opened it, I was really surprised by the shimmer in the brow powder, but it actually doesn’t look shimmery on the brow, and it has a really subtle sheen effect. The powder is very fine and richly pigmented, so you can definitely use this alone to create a very natural-looking brow. As I’m a bold brow enthusiast, I used this to set my brows, and it lasted all day without transferring or smudging. I think the shimmer concept is really interesting, and I love that Kat brought out something new.Kat Von D Brow Collection

Signature Brow Precision Pencil, $20

What it is: A long-wearing precision brow pencil with a unique oval shape design to give two shading options – flip it to the super-skinny side for a microblade-like point or to the wider side to fill in and shape the brows.

What we thought: This was definitely my fav piece from the collection, and I love the unique shape of the tip, which gives you so much control. I use the fine side for creating hair-like strokes at the front of my brow, then flip it around to the flat side for filling in the tail and drawing my arch. The formula is a little dry at first but softens slightly as you use it. I also love that it’s a twist-up design, as I hate having to sharpen my tools. It also has a spooley on the other end – an essential!

Super Brow Long-Wear Pomade, $19

What it is: A pigmented brow pomade designed to be long-wearing, sweat-proof, and waterproof.Kat Von D Brow Collection

What we thought: The color spectrum is amazing, and they’re all super-pigmented. However, I wasn’t a big fan of the consistency, which I found to be quite wet. It actually felt almost a little greasy, and it didn’t really set, so if I touched my brows throughout the day, there was product transfer. As the formula is so thin, it means it’s easy to pick up a lot of product, so I think you need to be careful or maybe wipe off any excess product in the lid. It could be that I’m used to a much thicker consistency that I find easier to work with (my go-to brow pomade is the Benefit ka-BROW! which has a much drier consistency); however, if you use this with a light hand and Kat’s new Pomade Brow Brush, you can get very precise application. It really is down to personal preference!

My Tip: As well as seven shades ranging from fair brown to charcoal black, Kat’s collection of colors are the perfect way to switch up your look. If you’re not brave enough to go full brow, you can use your fav shade to trace underneath the tail of your brow or on top of your normal brow to add a more subtle color. You can also combine the white and colored shades to create pastel colors, which give a much softer finish.

My Verdict

I think the collection is beautiful and definitely worth trying – it’s also very reasonably priced in comparison with similar brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills, Benefit, or IT Cosmetics. I personally won’t be swapping to this pomade, but I do think the color spectrum is super impressive and has some beautiful colors for creating bold brow looks. The brow powder is really good for summer travels as it also has a mirror, and if you love a natural brow, this is perfect for you. I LOVE the pencil and will be adding it to my kit! Most importantly, I think it’s great that Kat created a brow collection that has something for everyone, so whether you like a natural, colorful or a bold brow, there’s something here for you. If you’re in need of a new brow product, this is definitely worth checking out.
