The Makeup Look EVERYONE Wore At The Oscars, And How To Get It

The Oscars confirmed that 2019 is, undoubtedly, the year of natural makeup. Where we’d typically expect to see some of the most glam looks of the year, A-listers opted out; ditching the classic Hollywood vibe, trading it for a more understated look. Legit, we scoured the red carpet to find some makeup drama, and only J-Lo indulged us with a subtle smokey eye! Even Lady Gaga, aka one of the most theatrical, unpredictable women on the planet, kept it simple with a hint of silver eyeshadow and a nude lip.

So, what did we learn from the 2019 Oscars beauty looks? That the no makeup-makeup, natural beauty look isn’t a passing trend: it’s the ultimate look for every occasion, and we’re high key here for it. Here’s some major #OscarsBeauty inspo and the three key rules to nailing the look.
3 Essential Makeup Rules For Natural Makeup
Rule 1: Perfect your complexion
The key to slaying the no makeup-makeup look is a flawless yet natural-looking complexion. Prep is key, so use a hydrating, glow-giving primer like the Physicians Formula Spotlight Primer, $16, which blurs pores and adds insane luminosity. Follow with a full-coverage foundation (find our fave full-coverage foundations here), but be sure to apply it using a damp makeup sponge for a dewy airbrushed finish. Add definition by lightly contouring the cheekbones with a little bronzer: Irina’s makeup artist Tatyana Makarova used the Marc Jacobs Beauty O!Mega Bronzer Coconut Perfect Tan, $49, to enhance the supermodel’s killer cheekbones. Add color by sweeping a pink-toned blusher along the apples of the cheek where you’d naturally flush.

To finish, dab a little cream highlighter on the tops of your cheekbones to give your skin a soft glow. To lock your look in place, set your base with powder by targeting the T-zone, as this is where your skin tends to get oily. Lady Gaga and Irina both used the Marc Jacobs Beauty Accomplice Instant Blurring Beauty Powder, $32 (available in April), although the RCMA No Color Powder, $12, is a great, more affordable option.
Rule 2: Keep the eyes natural
When it comes to your brows, don’t overdo it! Swap a 3D Insta-brow for defined yet soft arches that flatter the dimensions of your face. To fill in the brows, use a powder for a subtler finish – if you don’t have a brow powder, use eyeshadow and a flat angled brush. Or, to make your brows appear more naturally full, use a brow brush like the Dior Diorshow Bold Brow, $27. Finish by coating your lashes with mascara but don’t pile it on – it’s understated glam!

Rule 3: Enhance the lips
To finish your look and accentuate your lips, use a nude or rose-tinted lip cream or gloss. We’re obsessed with subtle berry tones right now: they work perfectly for this look and complement flushed cheeks, creating a perfect harmony. For Irina’s voluptuous pout, MUA Tatyana opted for a glossy nude lip: she applied the Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hydrating Lip Gloss Stick in Mocha Choco-Lata, $28.
Make it more daring!
While we love the natural look, let’s be real, we love a little drama for an occasion, which clearly, so did a lot of the A-list.

Charlize Theron adds a modern twist to the classic red lip with the tangerine shade, and we’re majorly crushing on Adriana’s bold 80s hue.

Of course, the easiest way to take your look from super natural to glam is to add a sexy wing – it’s a classic for a reason, and these celebs proved it. Make sure you choose the right wing to flatter your eye shape!
