Nyx-Lip-Back

When a product goes viral on TikTok, it has to have a certain WOW factor, and this NYX Professional Makeup Shine Loud High Shine Lip Color, $11.50, has exactly that. The intensely pigmented lip gloss has been mentioned over 8 million times, with glowing reviews claiming it’s mask-proof, transfer-proof, and in short, the best lipstick formula of our time. Of course with such hefty claims, we had to put the formula to the test. Here are our honest thoughts:

The Hype

Currently, the lip gloss has 8.7 million hashtags on TikTok, and probably thousands more “TikTok Made Me Buy It” videos. NYX claims the product allows you to “kiss, drink, hair flip, and wear under a mask with no worries.” And TikTok has well and truly put that to the test, and seemingly provided the receipts.

Our Review

What it is: A two-step, dual-ended liquid lipstick. On one side there’s a super-pigmented, creamy matte formula infused with a rich blend of jojoba oil and vitamin E to hydrate and soften the lips. The vegan lightweight formula is also applied with a doe-foot wand for easy application. On the other side, you have a high-shine reflective topcoat with a brush applicator. There are 24 shades to choose from ranging from browns and pinks to red and an eye-popping purple.

What it does: The two-step lip product offers a highly pigmented, glossy finish that’s super long-lasting and will not bleed, transfer, or fade for up to 16 hours.

How to apply: First apply the creamy matte formula, then wait 90 seconds for it to dry (we waited a bit longer for it to fully dry). Once dry, apply the glossy top coat for a sexy, juicy pout.

What we liked: As soon as we applied the matte formula, we were seriously impressed with the pigment, which allowed us to overline our lips without using a lip pencil. The doe-foot applicator glided onto our pout with ease and felt very hydrating, unlike other long-lasting formulas we’ve tried. As for the gloss, we loved the high shine finish, which felt very sexy and made our lips look fuller and juicier than before. You also can’t beat the affordable price-point – you practically get two products for $12… Excuse us, while we buy every colorway.

The wear: Now, more importantly onto the wear test… NYX isn’t lying. Overall, the color is transfer-proof and will not bleed or smudge throughout the day. With that said, as with almost all lip glosses, the topcoat doesn’t remain high-gloss glossy for long. Of course, the gloss will transfer but the pigment remains totally intact, so the only thing that transfers is the gloss.

What we didn’t like: While we knew we’d have to wait 90 seconds for the formula to dry down, we’d say it took a few minutes to fully dry, and the process was very sticky. However once fully dry it did not budge or feel uncomfortable and it also looks gorgeous in its matte form if you don’t want to add a layer of gloss.

TBH, the formula was also a b*tch to remove, which is great throughout the day but slightly less fun when you have to scrape it off your lips. This is definitely a lip product that requires an oil-based remover – you will need to do two cleanses to fully remove it!

Our Final Verdict: We were seriously impressed with the creamy formula and long-lasting wear. However, we’d only use this formula when we need it to stay intact, so while it won’t become our everyday staple it probably will become our full glam essential!
