This Celeb Hairstyle Is Perfect For The Holidays (And It's SO Easy)

We’re calling it… This is officially the cutest hair trend of 2019. There we said it. This modern twist on the classic 60s style is 100% celeb-approved and has been seen on some of the biggest names in Hollywood. The upturned ends, also referred to as flipped ends, look so damn cute and it’s perfect for the impending party season. We’ve seen it on stage on J.Lo, Kim K wearing it on the red carpet, and everywhere on Instagram on pretty much everyone else. Our go-to celeb hairstylist Dom Seeley has also predicted it to be a big trend for 2020. But the best thing is it’s SO easy to recreate yourself and you can customize the look in so many ways. Here’re all of the deets, plus some major #hairspo.

The Trend
Obvs, the key element of this trending hairstyle is the upturned ends, but the rest is up to you. We love it when it’s styled with a high pony or headband, but it basically makes any style look super cute and playful. Because of how the hair sits, this works best with short to shoulder-length hair, so if you have long hair this works perfectly as a high-ponytail up-do, or you could try this trending style instead.

How to Get the Look
To recreate the look, you’ll need either a flat iron or a large-barreled curling wand with a clamp. Start with straightened hair, then once it’s styled to your preference, take the ends of your hair in sections and curl the ends up. Using a flat iron, start to twist your straighteners upwards about two to three inches from the ends of your hair. If you’re using a curling iron, do the same thing, clamping the ends of your hair around the barrel.
Don’t forget to use an extra hold hair spray like the L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hair Spray Strong Hold, $15, to keep your look locked in place. Check out how celeb hairstylist, Justine Marjan does the look on a high ponytail below.

We’re so obsessed with this whole look! Lizzo’s hairstylist Shelby Swain says, “To create the look, I first blow-dried her hair using the ghd air hair dryer, $199, and ghd paddle brush, $35. After blow-drying the hair, I took the hair up into a sleek ponytail. Then I flatten out the ponytail using the ghd platinum+ styler, $249, to get the hair super straight and shiny. Next, I flipped out the ends of the ponytail using the ghd curve soft curl iron, $199, for a flirty final touch.”
