Say hello – or should we say, Buongiorno – to the look that stole Milan Fashion Week and guaranteed a slot on every trend list for the foreseeable future. We’re dubbing the look the ‘Versace Wing,’ which translates as a bright pop of color in an elongated, exaggerated wing. It’s dramatic, playful, and it’s been seen on all your fave bombshells, from pop star sensation Dua Lipa to models Imaan Hammam, Gigi Hadid, and Adut Akech Bior. Here’s everything you need to know about the show-stopping look that you’ll be seeing and slaying all season long.

We first saw the Versace wing last season, both on the runway and in their campaign. Makeup legend Dame Pat McGrath created a sharp and geometric oversized wing that extended to the tail end of the brow. Not only does it accentuate the eye but thanks to the angle, its lifts and snatches too.

We also need to take a minute to appreciate the electric blue and pink hues. There’s no denying that bright colors that “scream look at me” are so IN rn. Gone are the neutral tones of lockdown, incoming: bold, fierce hues.

This week, Versace came through again with their signature wing. However, as you’d expect from an iconic brand, they took it to a new level. From tricolor moments of icy silvers, limes, and aqua blues, the hues remained striking. The shape remained the same, although they added a multi-dimensional moment with a stacked wing design.

To get the look, iconic makeup artist Pat McGrath, layered aqua and green shadows with shimmers from the new Mthrshp Mega: Celestial Odyssey Palette, $78. She paired the look with a high-impact gloss and dewy skin. Take note.

How to get the look: First prime your lid with a dusting of loose setting powder or an eyeshadow primer like the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $24. Then, to ensure the pigment pops, take a white or fair-toned cream eyeshadow or concealer and outline the shape of the wing using a dense brush. The Huda Beauty Matte Basics Melted Shadow, $25, is perfect for this step. Once you have the shape, take a small dense brush and your hue of choice and lightly pack the pigment onto the lid. This dabbing motion is super important as it’ll ensure the pigment really pops.

For a clean, modern look, you can also stick to one shade. Alternatively, grab a thin eyeliner brush or a colorful eyeliner and trace along above the geometric wing. To finish, apply a touch of shimmer on the inner corner of the eye, then add lashings of mascara. Finally, to ensure you have a sharp, crisp wing, take a small queue tip dipped in micellar water, and clean up any smudged edges.

Top tip: We recommend completing this eye look as the first step of your makeup routine, as there may be some fallout from the eyeshadow. Applying concealer and foundation post-eye makeup will also help neaten up any edges.
