We Tried Kylie's New $280 Collection – Is It Worth The Hype?
So it turns out while Kylie Jenner was keeping baby Stormi under wraps, she was also working on the ultimate makeup collection to dedicate to her newborn daughter. Just like she surprised us at Christmas with eyeshadows, highlighters, and lip products, Kylie started 2018 with The Weather Collection – an 11-product offering worth $280. The collection includes completely new products like glittering liquid eyeshadows, a yellow gel eyeliner, and a lipgloss. First of all, I loved that the press kit had a thunder sound effect when you opened it, and the holographic details on the packaging were very cute, but were the products worthy of the price tag? Here’s what I’d buy and what I’d pass on…
The Collection:
3 Matte Lipsticks
1 Lipgloss
2 Eyeshadow Palettes: Eye Of The Storm and Calm Before The Storm
2 Liquid Eyeshadow Duos
1 Yellow Gel Eyeliner
1 highlighter Palette
1 Loose Powder Highlighter
The Eyeshadow Palettes, $40: Calm Before The Storm and Eye Of The Storm
Both palettes have six matte shades and six shimmer shades each. I found that they were quite powdery and dry, so some of the shimmers lacked intense pigmentation, but overall the matte formulas were much better and gave better color pay-off. I prefer the colors in the Calm Before The Storm palette, so I would definitely buy that, and while there are some nice shades in Eye Of The Storm, I’m not as excited by the color palette.
The Liquid Eyeshadows, $40:
These are really cool, and I LOVE the color selection; the Violet Moon shade is really beautiful. I’d suggest applying these only on your lid, as they take a bit too long to set, so I found that they ended up creasing. I also found that after just a couple of hours, they were very fragile and a little flakey, and if I touched my lid at all, the formula kind of fell off.
The Highlighter Palette, $44 and Highlighter powder, $14
The highlighter palette is really nice, and I think the colors would work well for most skin tones; the shades are very shimmery, but look really pretty on. The formula was a little dry, so I think they would pop amazingly with a little fixing spray.
I mixed the Lightning Bolt loose shimmer powder with a drop of grapeseed oil and patted it on my cheekbones, and the yellowy, goldish color was particularly striking.
The Lipsticks, $18 and Lip Glosses, $16:
I’m not a big black lipstick fan, but I thought the pink shades, Nova and Cosmic were really romantic, very wearable rosy pink shades. The little lightning bolts on the lipsticks was an adorable touch – it’s all in the details.
The formula is creamy, but more on the dry side, which I like that as it meant the formula was very matte and long-wearing. The lip gloss is VERY shimmery, so apply it lightly!
Final verdict: Overall, I like the products and the collection, it’s playful and a bit different, but I do think the quality could be a little better for the price, as they’re not cheap products. My favs were the highlighter palette, glitter eyeshadows, lip gloss, and lipsticks.
