The-Wet-Brush

A good hairbrush can literally transform your hair care routine, so needless to say we’re always on the quest to find “the one.” It’s an added bonus if it’s affordable. So, when we started using The Wet Brush The Original Wet Brush Detangler Hair Brush, $10, we wanted to spill our secret ASAP. Not only does it detangle and glide through our hair with ease but it helps minimize damage, thereby preventing frizz. Here’s everything you need to know.

What it is: An innovative lightweight wet brush with ultra-soft bristles that’ll gently pass through your knots while simultaneously reinvigorating your scalp. It has an ergonomically designed handle for an easy and comfortable grip while styling. It’s also suitable for all hair types and will work through fine hair or curls.

What it does: Hair is weakest when wet, and tugging at your knots can permanently damage and even snap your hair strands, both of which can lead to split ends, dullness, and frizz (eek!) Thanks to the cushion and soft bristles, not only does this brush detangle and prevent painful brushing sessions, but it’ll also protect your strands from breakage.

What we liked: We literally liked everything about this brush. It worked through all of our knots in seconds and left our hair feeling super soft and shiny. Plus, as it minimizes damage, our hair wasn’t as frizzy as usual. Real talk: we didn’t think anything could tear us away from our trusted Tangle Teezer The Orginal, $13, but this may be our new fave. Honestly, the Tangle Teezer has been our go-to for years, but somehow this is just so much smoother at detangling and it felt a lot more gentle on our hair.

Whether our hair is wet or dry, this brush is our new fave for everything!

Hair-Brushing Tips

Don’t start at the scalp: While most people brush their tresses from their scalp to the tip, this can be extremely damaging as it’ll pull and tug any knots, causing tension and damage from the mid-section of the hair, thereby increasing the likelihood of frizz. Instead, start brushing from the ends of your hair then work upwards moving mid-length to ends. Then finish by going all the way through your hair from scalp to tip.

Don’t brush too often: Brushing your mane too frequently will lift the cuticles of your hair and break it, which can lead to dull hair, as the light fails to reflect off the uneven surface. Instead, only brush your hair when it actually needs it.

Always brush your hair before your shower: As we’ve mentioned, your hair’s most fragile and prone to damage when it’s wet. Therefore, according to celebrity hairstylist Dom Seeley to minimize breakage, you should always detangle your hair when it’s dry before you hop into the shower. Trust us, when you start brushing your hair pre-shower, you’ll be amazed at how much easier the washing process is and how much less hair fall there is.
