What to Love About Nars Latest Velvet Lip Glide
Nars’ latest lip collection gives an impressive color payoff and comfortable wear for someone who’s undecided if they’re Team Gloss or Team Lipstick. Here’s what we thought:
What it is: A smooth hybrid of a lipstick and a lip gloss, and a gorgeous edited color range.
What we liked: The Velvet Lip Glide is aptly named – it’s soft, and glides on saturated color for a semi-matte finish. The consistency is not-tacky like most glosses, but is creamier than most lipsticks (see why we don’t know what to categorize it as?!). It has a faint vanilla scent, nothing distracting. It feels buttery-soft and plush on our lips that makes it so fun to apply. There’s a color for every occasion and every mood – right now we’re feeling sassy in their siren red No. 54, but we like Bound’s muted mauve for every day (it wouldn’t be Nars if the names weren’t provocative).
(Above, top to bottom: Swatches in Unlaced, No. 54, Playpen, and Bound)
What we didn’t like: You might have to put more than one coat to get an even finish for some of the colors, which is normal for a lot of lip products. It lasts for a few hours (longer than most glosses), but don’t expect it to stay put when you drink your morning cup of coffee – it’s not supposed to be liquid matte lipstick, after all. Other than that, not much…it’s found a happy place in our makeup bag.
