As beauty experts, scrolling through TikTok can be kinda scary when there are so many hacks that we know will (most likely) wreak havoc on anyone who tries them. However, there’re also some genuinely impressive beauty tips and we’re also pleased to see some products getting the hype they deserve. So today, we’re shouting out three derm-approved drugstore formulas, from the hydrating cleanser everyone loves to the drugstore staple used for slugging!

1. CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser, $14

The hype: The ultimate TikTok skincare STAN is CeraVe. The drugstore brand loved and adored by derms and beauty junkies alike has found new fame with Gen Z-ers. Skinfluencer’s like Hyram Yarbro raved about this product and as a result, it keeps on selling out. Now, the entire CeraVe cleansing range has garnered rave reviews and is recommended all over the platform. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, TikTokers recommend trying the CeraVe Salicylic Acid Cleanser, $14; and they’re not wrong!

Our review: We’ve been recommended the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser, $14, countless times by some of Hollywood’s most in-demand derms. Formulated with three essential ceramides, the non-comedogenic face wash will help restore the skin’s barrier while hyaluronic acid works overtime to hydrate the skin. It also features MVE Delivery Technology to supply the skin with a steady stream of nourishment. It’s also fragrance-free, non-irritating, and is accepted by the National Eczema Association.

2. The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, $7

The hype: When @KaelynWhitee posted a video of her flawless skin after applying The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, the video went viral and The Ordinary reportedly sold 100,000 bottles of their cult-favorite serum. It now has over 13 million views, which is insane!

Our review: This has been one of our go-to serums for years! The potent formula combines BHAs and AHAs to cleanse deep into the pores and nix dirt and dead skin debris that can cause breakouts. It also boasts vitamin B5 and antioxidant-rich black carrot, which helps reduce the appearance of post-inflammatory pigmentation and improves skin tone and texture. However, this serum is potent, so if you have sensitive skin we’d advise steering clear. Otherwise, use once every other week or weekly if your skin can tolerate acids well.

3. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly, $4

The hype: Slugging, AKA applying Vaseline as a moisturizer, is a skincare hack that’s officially graduated from Reddit to TikTok. The hack now has 7.5 million views on TikTok.

Our review: According to dermatologist Dr. David Lortscher, “The United States FDA approves of the use of petrolatum as an over-the-counter skin protectant that can seal in moisture to help dry skin. It’s also useful in healing superficial scrapes and wounds as well as irritated skin.” He agrees with TikTok, stating that using Vaseline on your face as a moisturizer can give you crazy soft skin and notable hydration.

As with all skincare, there’s no one size fits all, so if you are typically oily or acne-prone, then this may not be the best hack for you. Check out our guide to slugging for more details.
