Love Actually

Arguably one of the greatest films of all time – it’s just one iconic scene after the other. From the Prime Minister being caught getting down to an old 80s classic to a little boy falling in love for the first time and a grown man admitting to his best friend’s wife, he’s been in love with her all along. But what makes Love Actually so unique is it doesn’t just tell the story of a dozen fairy tales, in every story, there’s a little bit of love, showing that “love is actually, all around.”

The Holiday

We can’t deny it, we watch the film all year round! There’s all little bit of everything; laughter, tears, Hollywood glamour, British humor, plus the soundtrack is so beautiful. And of course, it teaches you that heartbreak doesn’t always have to be a flurry of tears and chocolate ice cream (although it totally can be). Instead, it inspires you to be uber spontaneous and take a self-care trip across the globe, and to be, like Arthur reminds us, the leading lady of your life! Oh, and did we mention Jude Law in that light blue shirt? Major heartthrob vibes.

Home Alone

Whether it was your dream or your idea of a nightmare to be left alone at Christmas, this film has us giggling no matter how many times we watch it. The pranks, the quotes, the Christmas decor – this film is like the Christmas gift that keeps on giving. So have a very “Merry Christmas you filthy animals,” and snuggle up on the couch with this holiday classic.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Even though this is supposed to be a kid’s film, we’ve been watching it annually since it came out – Christmas is the time to embrace your inner child, right? Regardless, this film could make even the most pessimistic person hopeful, so get ready to get into the Christmas spirit. Oh, and in case you didn’t know, Cindy Lou is Jenny from Gossip Girl – mindblowing, right?

It’s A Wonderful Life

via Giphy

This is the ultimate holiday film – it’s honestly timeless. Don’t be put off by the fact that it’s in black in white, as it leaves you feeling all gooey inside and makes you realize what the holidays are really about: the people that surround you, rather than the gifts underneath the tree. We won’t lead you in under any false pretenses though, this one is a real tear-jerker, but we promise it’ll be worth it by the end.

The Family Stone

This movie perfectly captures how crazy it can be to return home over the holidays, especially when you’re with your in-laws! From physical fights to false engagements, it showcases how much of a rollercoaster life can be. And can we please take a moment to note how gorgeous Rachel McAdams looks in that red turtleneck sweater? We’ve just ordered one from ASOS!

Elf

This film has us in stitches year after year, and of course, inspires us to be horrendously inappropriate all year round because, tbh, who doesn’t want to eat maple syrup spaghetti for breakfast? Or fall in love and sing your heart out? We definitely do!

Four Christmases

Christmas with your family can get pretty crazy, and this film perfectly captures that. From classic sibling rivalry or your mom showing every embarrassing photo of you that she can find to your guests, they’ll be at least one thing you can relate to in this movie.

DIY Nutmeg Mask

For major festive feels, why not make your own nutmeg face mask? The holiday spice is full of antioxidants, and the texture will help gently exfoliate your skin, leaving it soft and smooth AF. This mask also contains antibacterial miracle ingredient, honey, making it perfect for acne-prone skin.

Mix 2 tablespoons of honey with one teaspoon of nutmeg and one tablespoon of milk in a bowl. Stir until the mixture is well combined and then apply to your skin with a synthetic makeup brush and work outwards. Let the mask sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing. Follow with your favorite moisturizer!

If you don’t fancy watching a Christmas movie then our fail-safe show to watch while we pamper is Gossip Girl –  it’s a cult classic for a reason. Check out the life lessons we’ve learned from Blair and Serena here.
