Blush is the STAN of the beauty industry right now. Literally, everyone is obsessed, from celebs to influencers, not to mention the TikTok masses. Naturally, we’re always on the lookout for new blush formulas that deliver a stunning rosy glow. So you can bet all your money that when we heard Benefit Cosmetics was updating their blush line, we didn’t walk, we ran.

Their new collection has had a serious 2022 glow-up; not only is their extensive new shade range more inclusive than their original powder blush collection, but it’s also more eco-friendly. Introducing the WANDERful World Silky-Soft Powder Blush, $17, a collection of 12 new shades in different finishes. Here’s everything you need to know…

The New Formula

If you love beauty as much as us, you’ll be familiar with Benefit’s OG blush and bronzing products; there’s the classic Hoola that sculpts and adds a goddess-like glow, and Dandelion that creates a soft blush. Both cult faves, but there’s no denying these shades just didn’t work for richer skin tones. Fortunately, Benefit has caught up and has launched a much more inclusive shade range with blush options to pop on all skin tones, thanks to a translucent base for immediate color payoff and no white cast.

What it is: A long-wear, triple-milled powder with the silkiest texture that delivers a rosy glow that lasts from morning to night. The formula is infused with freshwater pearls and synthetic sapphire that creates a luminous, light-reflecting radiance. Oh, and it’s also smudge-proof, sweatproof, humidity-proof, and non-comedogenic. The 12 shades are comprised of three different finishes: a buttery matte, a pretty shimmer, and a luxe AF satin.

What we liked: Honestly, we loved the new formula. As soon as we applied it, it blended seamlessly and didn’t look cakey or feel drying. The pigment payoff is also seriously impressive so keep this in mind when choosing your tool – more on that later! Another bonus? It has a slight blurring effect and wore well throughout the day. Some formulas have a little bit of fallout, so make sure you dip and tap, (dip your brush into the blush and lightly tap any excess formula off the brush) before you apply it to your skin.

The New Packaging

Okay, so packaging is becoming more and more important these days (as it should be). The reality is the beauty industry contributes massively to the yearly waste that pollutes our planet, so finding eco-friendly alternatives should always be a priority. Benefit knew you cared, so their new blush boxes are made of 100% recycled paperboard and the box has been downsized to be slimmer and sleeker. That means you get the same amount of product, just in a smaller box that results in 20% less paper. We’re here for the downsize; the blush takes up less room in our makeup kit! They’ve also removed the individual brushes, plastic brush sleeve, and plastic tray that used to be included in their OG blush packaging. They’re even passing these savings onto you by reducing the product price, making it $1 less than their OG blushes.

The New Shades

Now onto the stunning 12-shade blush range. There are four color categories in total: rich berries, sweet pinks, everyday neutrals, and bright corals. Every formula has a translucent base for better saturation and richer pigment payoff, without looking chalky (YAY). In fact, Benefit pressed each powder shade differently to ensure you can build and blend, regardless of the shade your using or your skin tone.

If you’re thinking this sounds too good to be true, don’t worry as we (obviously) had to put it to the test. The shades popped on a variety of skin tones and they held up across the board!

Application tip: These blushes are super pigmented! For deep to rich skin tones, use a more densely-packed brush for fast color payoff without having to spend time building. We recommend fair to medium skin tones to go slow and use a more fluffy brush to ensure soft color application that can be easily built.

Ultimately, some of the shades popped more on certain skin tones and were slightly more muted on others, but the pretty flush was always there. We also fell in love with the golden orange blush hue, Butterfly, which looked particularly beautiful on medium and rich skin tones. Crystah was another fave among the HB testing team, which looks super bright in the pan, but actually applies effortlessly and gives a really stunning pop on all skin tones.

Overall: We’re saying it: we predict another cult-status product. It feels amazing on the skin, delivers the most beautiful rosy glow, and lasts all day long. We love the variety of new shades, and the fact the packaging is much more eco-friendly. It ticks every box.
