Spooky season is in full swing, so it was only a matter of time before Halloween makeup trends infiltrated TikTok. The latest trend to dominate the app is vampire skin. It’s giving Twilight; and as Edward Cullen STANS, we couldn’t be more obsessed. Before you start thinking you need CGI, it’s basically a super glowy, sparkly skin look, and it’s easier to create than you may think. Here’s the tea…

Vampire Skin 101

What it is: To put it simply: its skin that LI-TER-ALLY sparkles. You want your skin to look ice-cold, kinda like a frosted snowflake that shines as bright as the north star.

The hype: Right now, as it stands, the tutorial from @imonaugust has 1.8 million views and around 300k likes… that’s like, A LOT, and we’re expecting a whole lot more. We get the hype, it’s easy to achieve, and it nods at other major trends like laminated skin, which is Spring/Summer 2023’s hottest look.

How to get the look: The basic equation of this makeup look is simple, which also explains why it’s been such a slam dunk on social media. So here it is: a luminous foundation mixed with a cool-toned liquid highlighter topped with a dusting of shimmering highlighter. You can play around with whatever formulas you have to hand, but here are some products we’ve used and LOVED.

Step 1: For this look, you need to start with foundation; August used the MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation with SPF 15, $39, but you can use any creamy foundation that has a hella-glowy finish. Our GloWish MultiDew Skin Tint, $39, is perfect as the formula blends seamlessly into the skin and mixes really well with other formulas. Of course, it also has a stunning radiant finish, which is a must for this look. Another great option is the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, $69, or if you want something more budget-friendly, the NYX Professional Makeup Born To Glow Foundation, $10, also leaves your skin looking luminous AF.

Step 2: Okay, so now you need to mix in a cool-toned highlighter with your foundation. In the original tutorial, @imonaugust used two cream highlighters; a cool, icy silver and a copper-toned highlighter. First, he used the Made By Mitchell’s Blursh Lights Liquid Highlighter, $19, in ‘Drip Drip’ followed by Beauty Bay’s Liquid Crystal Eyeshadow, $8, in ‘Precious Topaz.’ We’ve also seen other TikTokers add in a loose powder highlighter to their foundation like the Wet n Wild Megaglo Loose Highlighting Powder, $5. Whatever products you choose, mix the foundation and highlighter on a tray or on the back of your hand and apply to the skin using a damp makeup sponge or foundation brush.

Step 3: For the finishing touches, apply a sparkly, cool-toned highlighter to the high points of the face using a small fluffy brush. August applied the Urban Decay Moon Dust, $22, in ‘Cowboy’ on the cheekbones before using the silver shade in the Nabla Cosmetics Miami Lights Glitter Palette, $26. The Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb All Over Diamond Veil, $40, is another fabulous option for this look.

If you’re opting for this look for Halloween, just add some amber contacts, and you’ll be giving Cullen energy all night long.
