Why The Glitter Trend Won't Go Away
We can’t deny it; we’ve always been a huge fan of the glitter trend ever since Studio 54 literally LIT up the disco scene in the 70s. But right now, people are high-key embracing it; on the catwalk, on our IG feed, and then, of course, there’s Kira Kira, possibly the best app of all time. Because if there’s one way to brighten up a stressful day, it’s with some glitter. It’s just such a fun trend to play around with, and it’ll instantly put a smile on your face – so why the hell not? Let’s be real, nothing says, ‘I’m here for a good time’ more than a glittering lid and nothing proclaims IDGAF more than a glitter brow. So, to give you some major inspo, we’ve got the tips and tricks on how to add some sparkle to your life, helping you shine brighter than any diamond.
Glitter LIPS
Ever since Pat McGrath trademarked glitter lips, the beauty world has been obsessed. It literally redefines the word showstopper. For the perfect glitter lip, start by applying a matte base color so the glitter glue can stick to it, like the Huda Beauty Liquid Mattes, $20. To ensure there’s no glitter fall out, dust around the outline of your lips with some translucent powder. Then gently dab a thin layer of glitter glue using a flat, angled brush, (our fav glue is the NYX Profession Makeup Glitter Prime, $7), then gently press the glitter on top. Blend in the translucent powder and finish with a setting spray (mouth closed!). If full-on glitter is too much, we love Lime Crime’s Diamond Crushers, $26, for serious shimmer.
Glitter LINER
We’re always looking for new ways to switch up our eyeliner look, which is why glitter liner is our new go-to. We like to accentuate the liner with a pop of color or some embellishment by sticking on some sequins (for easy application, use lash glue). Or for an edgier look, layer your usual black liner, with a glitter liner, (our fav is the Too Faced Glitter Pop, $20) with an exaggerated wing.
Glitter LIDS
The best thing about glitter lids is that you can decide how extreme you want to make your look. Whether you want to use a liquid glitter eyeshadow, a pearl-pressed eyeshadow (like some of the shades in our Obsession Palettes, $27), or you just want to bathe your eyelid in glitter – we’re here for it. We’re so obsessed with the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow, $24; we even keep one on our desk; with one swipe, it’ll transform your look. When you’re opting for a more dramatic look, just remember to apply a generous coat of Vaseline for easy application and then use a flat brush to press the glitter gently into your lids, finishing by outlining the lower lash line.
Glitter BROW
In the past year, we’ve seen so many weird brow trends that glitter brows seem relatively tame. For our go-to glitter brow, we fill in our brows, as usual, then we apply some metallic eyeshadow, followed by a glitter brow gel, like the BBrowbar, limited edition brow glitter ($20). Check out our take on glitter brows here, if you’re looking for a more low-key way to where the trend. For something a little different, we like to recreate Gigi’s brows by applying some glitter liquid liner under the arch to add a little definition.
Glitter Everywhere
Okay, so we’re not suggesting you dunk your entire face in glitter, like the models on the Maison Margiela catwalk, but you can add a little dusting – it’s festival season, after all. We like to add a little sparkle to our cheekbones, collarbones, or above the brow. For major Coachella vibes, we even put some on our roots. All you need to do is apply a thick coat of petroleum jelly, sprinkle a little, or A LOT of glitter, and set with hairspray or a setting spray.
Are you still loving glitter, or are you over it?
